My Granny's Banana Pudding Company: Mesa food truck-turned-restaurant serves 6 banana pudding & Soul Food.
A new dessert shop has popped up on the Valley's food radar.
It offers a cool and smooth, fruit-topped treat that in one bite may take you back to your Midwestern childhood roots — banana pudding!
Owner Kay Edwards and her family opened My Granny's Banana Pudding Company in 2016 out of a renovated ice cream truck. Last month, she opened her storefront within a shopping center near Guadalupe and Dobson roads in Mesa.
The intimate cafe has two booths, a handful
high-top clothed tables and a four-seat counter that overlooks a prep area. A yellow-and-grey striped wall is filled with framed pictures and lighted by an eccentric hanging light. Soul music softly plays in the background.
Granny's serves six banana pudding flavors, all made daily.
The cost varies between $5-$12 for eight/twel ounces.

Besides pudding, the eatery also serves wings and other baked goods like cake and Rice Krispies treats.
A FAMILY BUSINESS
All of the recipes for My Granny's Banana Pudding Company came from Edwards' grandma in St. Louis, Missouri.
Growing up, Edwards said she spent many afternoons and evening at her grandma's house for Sunday dinner, birthday parties and other family gatherings.
There was usually banana pudding, she said. And it was good.
After moving to Arizona in 2009 and briefly owning a boutique salon and working as a nurse, Edwards wanted to try her hand owning a restaurant.
Granny's was born.
Edwards said her grandma still lives in St. Louis, but checks in on the restaurant to make sure her recipes have not changed (like all good grandmas do). In the next few months, grandma will be moving to Arizona and will actually be in the restaurant, said Smith.
"It's for grandma," she said.
The business is family run and operated. It wouldn't be a surprise to see a cousin, aunt or uncle helping out with the day-to-day tasks, Edwards said.
