About

I am Mark Jordan of Mark Jordan Photography, Orange County's go-to family portrait and headshot Photographer.

My clients tell me what sets me apart is my flair for capturing their personality, genuinely and artistically. Whether I'm photographing their family or creating their headshot, they are amazed not only at the extent I'll go to elicit something special about them, but how I make it "fun" and "painless." I think what they sense is that I am as passionate about people as I am about photography.

I am a Master Photographer and Photographic Craftsman. From the pages of People magazine to the halls and walls of office and home, my portraits have expressed the life-styles of American families and business since 1981.

I am a member of the American Society of Photographers and inducted as a permanent exhibitor into the International Photography Hall of Fame, where my recreation of Georges Seurat’s “La Grande Jatte” was installed alongside Ansel Adams in the museum. Only a relative few portrait artists, worldwide, have their work displayed in the museum.

In addition to being named O.C. Photographer of the Year, I am also an eleven time recipient of the coveted International Loan Collection Award. Prominent organizations such as Professional Photographers of America, Norway, Germany, Kodak, Fuji, and EPCOT Center (three time honoree in the "World's Greatest Photographers" exhibit) have honored my work.

A few notable companies that have engaged my services are Tiffany, Virgin, Oakley, Bijan, Toyota, Boston Red Socks, Angels, Marriott, ClubCorp, Predictive Technologies, AVCO, Viacom, Pacific Mutual, Boston Pharmaceuticals, Bourns, Gensler & Associates, O.C. Performing Arts Center, and the Actors and Productions of Tony Award winning South Coast Repertory.

More importantly, every single honor and award I have ever earned has come directly from commissioned work. I owe my success to my clients - it all began with simple inquiries and continues today because of those who honor me with their trust.

Frequently asked questions

SCHEDULING A SESSION

Once a new client contacts us and request a headshot session, we forward them a confirmation email with helpful preparation information. Should they desire to talk or meet us prior to their session, Mark will take as much time as needed to answer every question and concern.

Since the nature of our business is one of “last-minute,” we regularly accept sessions the same week, with many sessions being arranged the same day or next.

THE HEADSHOT SESSION

For our most popular headshot session, Single Look, we set aside 30 minutes. During a session, Mark prefers to photograph BOTH sides of the face, capturing a range of expressions.

Mark does not limit himself on the number of exposures, preferring to photograph each client until he feels he’s captured the expressions he’s looking for. Even so, the actual session time is fairly quick (which our clients love), frequently taking only 15-20 minutes.

Once the session had concluded, the first comment we hear most often is, “Wow, that was painless!” We could not ask for a better compliment.

POST SESSION

After each session, Mark personally reviews the client’s headshot order with them, ensuring that they are aware of digital file and retouching options. While some clients prefer to make these decisions straightaway, others opt to see their Previews first. We are happy to accommodate our clients either way.

SELECTION PROCESS

While it has become fashionable for studios to boast about their clients being able to choose their headshot images immediately following their headshot session, we contend that simply because technology permits for making quick decisions it does not mean it is beneficial to do so.

Therefore, instead of pressuring our client’s to quickly choose their expression instantly after their session appointment, we believe it’s to their best interest to view their Previews in the comfort and relaxed confines of their home or office. This also affords them the benefit of soliciting the opinions of trusted friends, who tend to provide objective, unemotional perspectives.

We too are avail ourselves to assist with the selection process, And in those instances where a client simply cannot decide, we’re happy to oblige in offering our advice or making the ultimate decision for them.

PREVIEWING AT HOME OR OFFICE

Before choosing something as influential as one’s business image, a thoughtful, measured and unhurried consideration is essential. To this end, we post our client’s Previews online.

Within 24 hours of a client’s headshot session, we forward them an email with “Preview Link.” Once they arrive to their online folder, they can view and compare all their Previews, which are simply the expressions and posed created at their headshot session. Each Preview that been color corrected, the skin tones softened, and is center cropped.

We also enclosed helpful information to facilitate the selection process.

WINNOWING PREVIEWS

As a courtesy to our clients, we include every exposure that is presentable, allowing them to determine which expressions are their favorites. However, with so many favorable expressions from which to choose, the selection process can become unwieldy.

Since having fewer images to toggle between greatly facilitates the selection process, we suggest that our clients email us the expressions they like most. Once clients email us the images they’d like to keep in their Preview Folder, we promptly delete the rejects. We continue this procedure until our client discovers their ultimate favorite expression and informs us.

DIGITAL FILE PREPARATION & RETOUCHING

Once our client has selected their favorite expression, they simply email us with their headshot order. We ask them to provide us with three essential details:

1. Exposure Number

2. Retouching Level

3. Due Date

We then promptly confirm our client’s headshot order with an email. Depending on the level of retouching they stipulate, their completed digital will ready and emailed to them within 24 to 48 hours.

While my clients range from hardworking Orange County families and businessmen, to talented musicians and actors, I’ve also had the pleasure of working with celebrities, of which an account of those I’ve met and photographed is much too long for this post.

Besides, I much prefer photographing non-celebrities, who challenge me to elicit genuine smiles and natural postures. Bringing out the star quality in their own world of influence requires much more of my skill set and is exceedingly more rewarding. As a professional, I’m expected to perform at my peak, 100% of the time. Doing so for celebs is practically effortless – emoting on cue is what they do for a living! But trying to extract a sparkle out of an irascible child or busy, reluctant executive…now that’s another story altogether.

Regardless, a few on a short list of my most favorite people I’ve ENJOYED working, and whom you might recognize, are Barbara Eden, Randy Newman, Buzz Aldrin, Lou Ferrigno, Brian Denny, Mindi Adair, David Pack, Julie Hagerty, Amanda Beard, Bradley Whitford, Dakin Matthews, Tony Roberts, Robert Foxworth, Kandis Chappell, Richard Doyle, Hal Landon Jr., Dylan Baker, Jeffrey Combs, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Rex Hudler, Kene Holliday, Douglas Sills, Michael Berryman, Alastair Duncan, Elizabeth McGovern, John Slattery, Jeanne Paulsen, I.M. Hobson, Douglas Weston, Megan Cole, Micky Arison, Stephen Rowe, Stephanie Zimbalist, Jane Carr, John O’Hurley, Mel Owens, Peter Michael Goetz, Ted Williams, and John Wooden.
