As a photojournalist, I approach a wedding as if I was shooting the “story” of your wedding day. Capturing the time as you get ready with your bridal party and following you through your day as you say your vows and enjoy your reception allows me to find both the special candid moments and the unseen details that make your wedding day extraordinary. You will be able to relive your wedding day again and again through your photographs.
Of course, posed portraits have an important place in wedding photography too. My background has helped me form a style of photography that combines candid photographs and creative formal portraits into a nice mix that works very well for weddings.
I believe all couples are unique and beautiful and their wedding photography should reflect their individual personalities.
I love getting to know my couples a bit so I can help make each couple comfortable in front of the camera and take natural-looking photographs that show a couple's affection for each other.

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
Getting to know a potential couple is important to me. Having a meeting either by phone or in person is a good way to see if we are a good fit. I like to understand what each couple hopes to have for wedding photographs and discussing ideas helps couples understand what their wedding day might be like as far as photography goes. It is also a good way to help couples decide how many hours they might need and what working with me is like.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
In addition to having my masters in photojournalism, I worked as a photojournalist for a newspaper before becoming a wedding photogrpaher. This experience has helped me find the best ways to make a couple comfortable in front of the camera, find creative angles for photos, and understand the importance of candid photographs. These things, along with a great work ethic, a happy demeanor and a calm working attitude makes couples enjoy working with me for their wedding.

Since all weddings are unique, I believe in letting couples choose the coverage they want on their wedding day and not requiring them to spend on things they are not interested in. That is why I help couples put together a package that suits their exact needs. I base my packages on how many hours you would like me to be there at your wedding. The package includes a flash drive of all your high resolution full-size images with full printing rights and three months of web hosting so your guests can see your photographs.
How did you get started in this business?
I started out as a photojournalist, working for a newspaper group for several years until I switched to wedding photography as newspapers were fading out and people turned to the internet for their news.
This has worked out well for me since wedding photography has changed from very static photos to more candid and natural in style.
What types of customers have you worked with?
I enjoy working with all kinds of couples for their weddings. I have photographed young couples and older couples somtimes on their second wedding as well as same sex couples. I like having a variety of couples and I enjoy the challenge of making unique wedding photographs for each couple.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I love couples who are openminded to having some fun with their wedding photos. While it is important to have nice classic formal wedding portraits, showing your personality with some funny, interesting photos that show a little about who you are and what you are like is great too. I love when couples include their dog or an antique family car or something from one of their careers to amke their wedding photos unique.
What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a pro in your area of expertise?
Make sure the photogrpaher you pick is not only good with their camera but is also someone who is organized, calm and pleasant. You will spend a lot of time with your photographer and weddings can be stressful. Being organized so you can get yout photos done quickly and efficiently is as important as knowing how to use a camera to make nice images. And a photographer who is pleasant is important becasue they will interact with you and your friends and family all day long.
What questions should customers think through before talking to pros about their needs?
I believe it is important to find a photogrpaher that not only fits your budget but that you will enjoy working with. You will spend a lot of time with your photographer on your wedding day so make sure you pick someone whose style matches what you are looking for and that your photographer is someone you think will make the photography part of your day, fun, fast and enjoyable.
