Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
We like to talk to our customers over the phone so we can get a better sense of what they are looking for and their needs for their event. We are based in NYC so we tend to encounter customers from every end of the economic spectrum. So by talking with our clients, we can work together to get as much entertainment as we can into their budget if they are a school, community board, etc. that is looking to enrich the local children's lives with having animals (or sometimes just any form of entertainment they can get) at an event but don't have enough in their budget to meet our regular prices.
After the phone call, we submit to our clients a proposal detailing everything they requested as well as our terms and conditions of service. If they like what they see and wish to hire us we then take a non-refundable deposit to hold their event date for them and the items they requested.
Once the event date has arrived, we collect the balance on arrival.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
My husband who owns the company (I am a co-owner. I am the VP and secretary, he is the President and Treasurer) has been working with horses and farm animals for over 30 years now and has been in the animal entertainment business since 1996. In the past, he has also worked as a veterinary technician.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your services? If so, please share the details here.
We have a base price for everything, but we allow our customers to pick and choose what they want at there event and give them a package discount based on how much they booked with us and how long they are ordering each item for.
How did you get started in this business?
My husband got me into this business and I love it. He got into this from working at a horse stable in the Bronx that also did pony rides and petting zoos.
What types of customers have you worked with?
regular everyday people, corporate clients, (Sprint, NBC, YMCA, American Eagle), non-profits (community boards, political campaigns, public daycares, etc) PTA boards, Department of Education, photographers, Broadway plays, small businesses, almost everything
What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a pro in your area of expertise?
Make sure they have animal insurance and that their animals are all up to date on their respective shots and immunizations. Also, if you are getting a petting zoo they should be USDA licensed.
What questions should customers think through before talking to pros about their needs?
It's according to what they are renting.
For example: if they are getting an inflatable, they would need to know if they can power it themselves or if they need a generator. if they have enough space for the item. if they are having it in a park or venue, will the place allow them to have the inflatable and do they need a permit for it?
Another example: Petting zoo. Is there enough space for the zoo? will they have it indoors or outdoors? Do they mind their grass being eaten? if so, maybe they should have it on a hard surface like a driveway or patio.
