Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
The first step is to do a consult with the client in order to capture their vision for the vibe they would like to set with the music and the flow for the party or special event.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have been in the business since 2001. I started by shadowing other professional DJs prior to starting my own business. I stay current by attending DJ conferences and being involved with ADJA (American Disc Jockey Association).
Do you have a standard pricing system for your services? If so, please share the details here.
For most parties we offer pricing based on hours needed. For school events it will depend on size of crowd, lighting and party props needed. For weddings we take into account the size of the party, if ceremony music and sound is required as well as lighting effects and any additional add ons. It is best for us to gather information from the client before we can give an accurate price quote.
How did you get started in this business?
I have always been drawn to music at parties and naturally was a DJ for my soccer team growing up - my passion for music lead me to learn the art of DJing and then owning my own equipment.... the rest is history!
What types of customers have you worked with?
I have worked with all types of clients - corporate, school, wedding, and private parties. Any customer who is in need of a DJ!
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
We recently had the pleasure of setting up music for an outdoor wedding in Apple Hill - we provided music and sound for both the ceremony and the reception. We combined the bride and grooms love for reggae music as well as weaving in requests for the 'ring bearer' ... the father of the bride even sang a Beatles song that we set up as an instrumental track w/o the vocals.
What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a pro in your area of expertise?
It is very important to establish a relationship with your selected DJ. Other non-negotiables: 1. Make sure the DJ you talk to is the one showing up to your event. 2. A contract is a must - it protects both parties. 3. Open communication w/regards to expectations. and lastly 4. flexibility!
What questions should customers think through before talking to pros about their needs?
Do you have a contract? Do you carry liability insurance? How often can we talk or meet up prior to the event?
