Hello, my name is DJ MEL. I have been DJing since I was in the 6th grade. Im graduate of the DJ Scratch Academy of DJ Jam master J of Run Dmc in NYC. I have mentored several students under my teaching from all walks of life.(state judges. Police officers and other professional djs just to name a few) I have been into djing when the hiphop scenes was new and that five elements of hip hop is what grabbed my mind and never let go since. What I love about my work is there are so many levels to djing that if your not a dj yourself you may not have even know these vast differences even existed.The thing that makes me stand out from most (if not all djs in Baltimore city and Maybe even the state of Maryland) before and after my training with the DJ Scratch Academy, my style of djing is not like your average Baltimore /Maryland dj.. I have been told by my other DJ peers and ones that are not even djs that "... MEL.... Your not like the rest of these DJs here, you do stick out. You do outperform most of these top notch djs... You must except this" It took me a little while to swallow that pill. But once I did I began to what was being explained to me. Im not a one track closed minded and closed ear Dj. I do try to cater to different genres of music when ever possible. From 70,80,90 classic rock and r&b. 80s pop, to hiphop rap, Baltimore club, nj club, Philly party muisc, afrobeats, house music of different sub genres, soca. Reggae. Dancehall (yes! There is a difference between the two lol) reggaeton, bollywood, southern soul (which is new for me) Miami bass, edm. You must try to adapt and expand your mind and ears to new things.
