Ice Pick's Pies
About
I am a self-taught home cook that has taken my skills and launched my cottage bakery and catering company Ice Pick's Pies in 2023. I specialize in down-home comfort food based on recipes that have been handed down to me by my family or that I personally have developed myself inspired by my culinary exploration. In addition I also have the ability to make most of my dishes gluten-free and/or dairy-free, including vegan options. I have worked in bakeries and cafes as a prep and line cook, as well as a manager for over five years before owning my own business. There is absolutely nothing I love more than making people smile through my food. And I hope to have the opportunity to cook for you and your guests soon.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
When working with a new customer it is of the utmost importance ot me to understand exactly what the event is, what their expectations are, their dietary needs/restrictions, and what will make them the most happy. Food is supposed to be a truly enjoyable and fulfilling experience and it is my goal to make someone's dining experience as delightful and satisfying as possible.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I do not have a culinary degree. I was raised in the kitchen with a family that cooked, raised by generations of men and women who also cooked and wrote their own recipes. I have studied intensly over the years and have, to this date, written 120 of my own recipes. I have taken every MasterChef class I can. I have worked in restaurants as a line cook, prep cook, and manager. And, now, I own my own business, Ice Pick's Pies. A fancy culinary degree does not mean you can cook food with heart and soul and love – that's what I do. And with a vigor you'll only find in people truly passionate about feeding people.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your services? If so, please share the details here.
For individual orders my pricing is on my website icepickspies.com.
For group orders, such as corporate luncheons, etc., it is per head. Lunches range from $8 to $10 a boxed lunch, which includes the main course, a side salad, and a cookie. For larger buffett type situations, it is per tray which ranges (for either a 8x8" or 9x13" tray), depending on the requested dish. I will provide a price quote for every inquiry ahead of time so that everything is agreed to before the event.
What is on my website is not everything that I offer. If you have a special request it can be accomodated, except for sushi (that's a specialized skill set), and bbq (I don't have a smoker at this time...but I am happy to recommend a friend!).
A 50% retainer fee is required before the time of preparation because supplies must be acquired in order to make the food.
Delivery is always included for free.
How did you get started in this business?
I began cooking when I was about 8 years old. My father and mother used to cook every single evening, recipes of their own creation, some from my family's history, and others they cultivated from magazines back in the 80's.
Later on, I became the person mostly responsible in the household for cooking. And I took this responsiblity very seriously. Food was nuturing. Food made people smile. Food made people forget their hardships, their long days, and their pains. And so, I cooked my heart out...
I found myself early on in the culinary world, managing bakeries and sandwich shops, and eventually cafes. Along the way I honed my craft by studying cookbooks and MasterClasses online. Let's face it, not everyone can go to culinary school these days.
And then in 2018, when I was trying to decide what really made me happy as a human professionally... I started Ice Pick's Pies. Savory and sweet pies, baked goods, casseroles, and pretty much anything else you can request! Except sushi... hahah!
