Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I get to know you. Your personality, style, and sense of humor. I use those aspects to personalise your wedding. Every detail is covered first , then we plan the fun stuff! Last thing is music. That is the soundtrack of your celebration and needs to bring it all together.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I am a graduate of:
The "Make it Grand" experience by Peter Merry
The "Entertainment Experience" by Bill Hermann
The "1% Workshop" by Randy Bartlett
I have attended various DJ Expos for the past 5 years.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your services? If so, please share the details here.
I have different ranges depending on what I do.
Parties and dances that don't need a lot of planning range between $400 and $700, depending on times
Special Events need a little more planning, so they range between $600 and $1000
Weddings need a lot of planning, so they range between $1500 to $3000
How did you get started in this business?
I have always liked entertaining. The need for me to provide a different, better experience started 5 years ago and ever since, I have been on a journey to learn from the best so that I can better perform for my clients.
What types of customers have you worked with?
I have worked with people who loved being in the spotlight and those who would rather include everyone in their celebration. There have been customers who wanted delivery in a timely fashion and those who wanted to know that I paid attention to the details.
Everyone is different and experiences things in their own unique way. By getting to know you, I can deliver the experience in a way that best suits you.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
Last November, I performed for a wedding. The venue was perfect, the decorations were beautiful, and the room was warm and inviting.
I introduced the wedding party while a totally banging song played. They all came in having the time of their lives and gathered in front of the sweetheart table.
All of the guests were encouraged to gather on either side of the room, forming an aisleway for my newlyweds. First, I told their Love Story and then introduced them.
They came bopping in the room with hands held high and the largest smiles on their faces. The roof exploded with applause and cheering, as everyone that they loved greeted them. The night was magical!
What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a pro in your area of expertise?
First, make sure they have a contract, a business license, and insurance.
Next, find out if they are serving you or themselves. Ask the tough questions and find out how far they are willing to go to create awesome for you.
How much thought are they putting into creating unique ideas? How much do they really care about the success of your event?
What questions should customers think through before talking to pros about their needs?
How much? That is the question that most inquiries start with. I understand that this will eventually need an answer.
There is a difference between a product and a service. Products, like laundry detergent, are everywhere but have different prices depending on where you shop. However, it is still the same product.
Services differ greatly between each company. For example, two lawn services. One cuts the grass and charges $20. That's it.
The other cares about you, your family, and your pets. They call to make sure the baby didn't just go down for a nap. They give you time to let the dog out. They arrive and cut the lawn using a bagger to collect the clippings. Then, they use a leaf blower to clean up the blades they missed. Now, the lawn looks neat and tidy afterward. They charge $75.
Which service would you choose?
How important is it to you?
Do you just want the lawn cut or do you want a company that cares about you?
That's the difference in service. The question should be: "Every DJ does the same thing. What makes you different from the others?" Once you have found the level of commitment that you're looking for, then you can ask "What does it cost to have that level of success?
