FAQs

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

"My work is collaborative".

We talk about your life, your hair:  goals, fears and challenges, to better understand your current hair situation.  I listen and work WITH YOU.

With this information a plan is developed to achieve the hair you want.

"My specialty is to bring out the best in clients, using holistic hair care"

I believe in the healing power of touch, and that it can bring about a positive shift in energy.  Massage along with Herbal infusions is incorporated into my shampoo session.

This is a new way to experience  hair care, using  enriched organic products, natural hair treatments and massage.

At Studio Joi -the overall health & well-being, of you and your hair are the goal.

• Develop program to reach client goals

• Products used are researched & tested

• One – on – one, exclusive session

• Mind -Body -Well -Being

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

My journey through the world of beauty has had many stops,  and taken me several places around the globe -gathering experience, education and appreciation for cultural differences.

I then went on to get my cosmetology instructor's license and taught at the beauty college for many years.

From there I became an educator & platform artist for KMS.  I traveled the states teaching my peers hair color and styling techniques. During this time I went into partnership in a small salon in Corte Madera where I stayed for 5 years.  In 1988 I started Sausalito Signatures, a  hair salon on Bridgeway.  26 years I created a community that was multicultural and  focused on education, health, beauty and fun.

London. -Introduced me to a broader approach to hair color and precision haircutting

Bali -Culture rich tradition and honoring Mother Earth set in motion  understanding the need for grounding the spirit

Amsterdam -Revealed acceptance of cultural diversity

Puerto Rico -Taught me about the gift's of the Rain Forest

Mexico -Culture and how to improvise and be flexible

Hawaii -Hi-lighted Natures' gifts to us -Aromatherpy

Now at Studio Joi I have combined a brilliant mix of beauty, healthful ideas, local artists, music, education and culture.

How did you get started in this business?

I started my career at Lytle's Redwood Empire Beauty college in 1983, where I was fortunate to study wtih Ed and Kathy Lytle. During my education I was allowed to learn, explore, question and grow as much as I could.  I then went on to get my cosmetology instructor's license and taught at the beauty college for many years.

From there I became an educator & platform artist for KMS.  I traveled the states teaching my peers hair color and styling techniques. Entertaining provided a way of promotion and uniting people.  Signatures became known within the community as a place where hair, fashion shows,  great live music and  local artists met.  Teaching provided opportunities for me to experience different learning styles and methods of communicating, which has enhanced my relationships with clients.
