Frequently asked questions

We find out what exactly the client wishes to get and where, and how large. If the client already has their own artwork, many times it needs to be worked up into a suitable design for a tattoo to be created out of it. Sometimes it is ready for skin, but many times, it needs to be translated into 'tattoo-able' art which means, we need an actual line (outline) version of the image. Once we have the outline, we can develop the rest of the tattoo on the skin during the actual process of tattooing. Things like custom colors can be mixed 'on the fly' and extra elements can be added as needed. Many times we can draw smaller things quickly on the skin, but with more complicated art, we usually like to develop it on paper, then position it on the skin, and calibrate the artwork to be larger or smaller as needed to fit exactly as it will look the best on the skin. Once that is determined, we make a stencil transfer, this is then transferred to the skin to act as a guide for the artist. With the edges defined to give the piece contrast against the skin, usually with black or colored lines, the rest of the design is filled in and the art is completed. Larger, complicated pieces often require more than one sitting, as clients are more comfortable with 3 to 5 hour sessions. Over this, it helpful for the sessions to be broken into multiple sittings, thus aiding the healing and making it easier for the client to actually finish the piece at their own pace.

Both Green Hair Mike and Lenny have multiple decades of experience with tattooing and body piercing. This multiple year experience for each assures each client of the highest level of expertise from working with either Green Hair Mike or Lenny. They both carry that same multi-year experience into their own piercing experience giving each client the best placement and jewelry choice when piercing.

We normally work at $125 per hour for large tattoo pieces, but often throw in extra time without charge for the largest of the pieces we tattoo. Our piercing prices are fixed at competitive rates starting at $30 for the most common piercings like navels, lips, noses on the sides, and ear lobes. In fact, our ear lobe piercings start usually at $20 and go up from that when the piercing is done through cartilage. Green Hair Mike even offers dermal implant piercings, which are known as 'single point piercings' or 'dermal anchor' piercings. These are unique piercings that give the illusion of a gemstone floating on the surface of the skin and the gemstone can be removed at will once the healing is completed. Gemstone colors can be changed out as well as style of metal head with the most common being round, star, or heart shaped. There are mony more different styles that can be choosen, once healing is completed. Be sure to do your research!

Green Hair Mike is a 3rd Generation tattoo artist who started working with his family in Denver, Colorado, and migrated to Florida in 1988 and has been here ever since. Lenny has lived across the US from Maine to Florida and from California to Florida, with stops in Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maine, South Carolina, Alabama, Texas, Arizona, California, and finally ended up back in Florida where she originally went to High School at Northeast High in St. Pete. She has been in and out of Florida all during her life, living in Palatka, East Palatka, Miami, Hollywood, Hallendale, St. Pete and finally ended up in 1989 in Tampa where she has been ever since before getting into Tattooing professionally. She brings a strong background in graphic design to her skills and is an award winning artist, along with Green Hair Mike.

We have both worked with a huge variety of clients from age 16 all the way up to being in their 70's and getting their first tattoo or piercing! Once Lenny gave ear piercings to the father of a friend who was in their mid 80's and getting their ears pierced for the very first time. In fact, it was his first time getting anything pierced or tattooed!

We are especially fond of our first-timer crowd and the women who find Earth and Moon Tattoos and Piercings! We take the extra time to provide what is necessary to make them feel comfortable, safe, at ease with the whole process by explaining each step with easy to understand details and this gives each client the assurance of getting the very best quality and style they want!

Be sure to always check the artistic portfolio of the artist before getting work done by them. Also, it might be a good idea to choose a friend who has tattoo work you admire, ask them where they got it, and you will find a wide variety of artist's styles. Traditional tattoos typically have bright, bold colors and thicker line work to provide maximum contrast with your skin tone. These types of designs can easily been seen and what they are understood from across the room! These type of designs tend to hold up best over the years due to the ability to easily refresh the colors and lines every few years. It is helpful to understand that through the years, skin grows, changes, gets lighter or darker and even the nature of the surface changes. This can often give the tattoo you've had for years the need to be brightened up again by going over it with fresh colors and lines to give it that 'just acquired' look of brightness and line crispness!

We receive some pretty amazing questions from clients. Most of the involve: how much will it cost? (We can answer that once we see the exact image to be tattooed, how large it will be,  how long we estimate it to take to complete the piece and how long each client is willing to sit for each session. Stopping and starting a design multiple times adds to the overall cost where as getting a tattoo in one sitting will often cost less, but depending upon how long it will take, a client will often break sessions into 3 to 5 hour breaks because after that time, often the natural pain-fighting chemicals the body naturally produces have been used up! Once those are no longer produced by the body, the illusion is that it hurts more, but this is actually an illusion because the body is no longer able to provide the natural pain killers it did at the beginning of the session. The body needs time to replinish those chemicals with a break of 2-3 weeks before the tattoo can be resumed if it still covers healing areas.
