Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
We schedule a FREE Tattoo Consultation with artist of choice or best artist for their new tattoo.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
All artists completed their apprenticeship and are now licensed practitioners in the State of N.H. and Salem, N.H.; They meet and exceed the state and city requirements and continue to grow with additional training. All artists are professional, talented, and insured.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your services? If so, please share the details here.
Our minimum is $150 and all artists price their work. They price by the piece or session; some will use the time as a guideline. However, the more experienced artists are super quick and charge for the tattoo. Quicker is not cheaper! This skill set has less trauma to your skin, less pain, and less time in the chair. Mini / Tiny / Micro tattoos mean something other than cheaper; this is a skillset. If you want pricing before the tattoo, please schedule a Free Tattoo Consultation or ask before the artist starts the drawing. We do not price over the phone. There are too many variables to consider.
How did you get started in this business?
By having a love for art and the tattoo industry, having a skill, marketing, and business degree, and working countless hours.
What types of customers have you worked with?
First-time clients, along with a large base of repeat clients. We cater to our tattoo walkins and appreciate appointment-based clients. The artist enjoys walkins. However, they work best when a client comes in for a free consultation, plan the design with the client, have time to draw at home, and piece out the new sleeve, back part, or other body locations.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
Our upcoming Flash Day Event. We let the artists have fun; they give somewhat of a discount, and the shop donates 40% to a local charity.
What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a pro in your area of expertise?
Check out the shop and the artist. You can view the Artist on the State of NH website for licenses or complaints; make sure you see their work, especially if you are looking for a particular style tattoo. Consider the tattoo or artist if you are looking for a realism tattoo and their portfolio only has cartoons. If an artist at Mayhem refers you to one of the others, listen to them. Our artist should always guide you to the best artist for your tattoo style.
What questions should customers think through before talking to pros about their needs?
Where can they see the artist's work?
How much experience do they have?
Are they licensed? Are they insured?
Price is a big one. If you ask for a design, the artist will base it on the conversation, picture references, and anything else you provide. If they return with a drawing and you completely change your mind, you still pay for their time to create the first and new drawings. Think about the tattoo you want and give the information needed for the artist to capture your thoughts and keep them from overwhelming them with over five pictures.
