About
With a passion for revitalizing vintage or heirloom items and a degree in Costume Design from Savannah College of Art and Design, I love making pieces that embody the dramatic stories of our lives- whether that's making a Tshirt quilt of favorite bands for snuggling up on the couch, altering formalwear for the perfect fit for a milestone event, or creating bespoke clothing made uniquely for your body. Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
Whether the desired outcome is creating custom items/bespoke clothing, fitting existing or off-the-rack pieces to fit properly, or reinventing heirloom and sentimental items to extend the use, I like to have an initial consult in person. I review the materials provided by the client, estimate labor and pattern drafting, and the timeframes required to meet both event deadlines and source additional materials required. Depending on the extent of work, we schedule additional fittings as needed.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a degree in Costume Design for Theater and Film from Savannah College of Art and Design, and have been sewing for over 27 years. I have previously worked in Custom Drapery, Upholstery, Handbags and Accessories, Baby Accessories, Embroidery, while offering tailoring and alterations to businesses and individuals- including law enforcement, period restoration and recreation, flight attendants and "transforming" garments.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your services? If so, please share the details here.
I charge 30$/hour for labor (sewing, cutting etc), and 50$/hour for drafting and pattern development. I am more than happy to come to you for fittings, delivery, or accompanying to source required materials (mileage over 30 is subject to additional fee) and readily discuss how we can accomplish what you want while staying within budget.
How did you get started in this business?
As I stated above, I started sewing before I was 3. I always knew I loved sewing, and I want to provide quality product that is both durable and as unique as our bodies, when planned obsolescence and "fast fashion" is the name of the game for most businesses.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I love making sentimental items come back to life; heirloom pieces (wedding dresses, grandma's stained dress from 1930, etc) reworked so that they can continue to be utilized and loved for years to come. Some of my favorites have included incorporating pieces of Mother's and Grandmother's wedding dresses into baptismal gowns and wedding gowns purchased off-the-rack, and extensive alterations to wedding dresses after purchase to make them exactly the dream dress the bride wants for her special day, or even enlarging pieces so they can continue to be worn.
