Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
Usually, I will do a consultation, where we discuss location of the desired tattoo, size, detail, color, and any other specifics. Based on that information, depending on the complexity of the tattoo, we can usually get started that day. For larger custom pieces, I require a deposit (that goes toward the tattoo) to start the commission. At that point the client will receive drawings for approval and editing until the design is complete. Once that is done, we can get tattooing!
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a Bachelor's of Fine Arts for graphic design so I am well versed in visual media. I studied at Purdue University and the Art Institute of Houston. I have been tattooing for 5 years, on top of a 3 year apprenticeship, for 8 years in the business total.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your services? If so, please share the details here.
Prices will vary based on design, location, size, detail, and coloring. Our current minimum is $80, and we also do $160/hr for larger pieces. Tattoos can also be priced per piece.
How did you get started in this business?
Loving Art and tattoos.
What types of customers have you worked with?
I have worked with every single type of person you can imagine. I've tattooed 18 year olds, and 72 year olds. I've tattooed people who have never been tattooed, and people who are covered. I've tattooed on all colors of skin. I've tattooed people who are afraid of needles too! Come one come all!
What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a pro in your area of expertise?
Do your homework! The best tattoos come out of a collaboration between artist and client. Come to us with the idea, but be open to imagery and style. We are artists! Let us do what we are good at and trust that we want you to have a bad ass tattoo more than you do!
What questions should customers think through before talking to pros about their needs?
What do you want? How big do you want it? Where do you want it? Are you putting too many ideas in one tattoo? Is simpler better in this case? Are you open to changes? Do you have reference of stuff you would like your tattoo to look like?
