About
When I perform a wedding, my first and most lasting desire is to get to know the couple as well as I can in order to customize the service to fit them and their dreams. This covers everything from how I dress to the specific words we used in the wedding ritual. Some like more poetic phrasing, so want less flowery phrases. I work very hard to make sure the service "suits" them in every way.
I also enjoy dressing to suit their tastes. In the pictures on this page you will see an Hawaiian shirt, a robe, and the standard black coat with gray pants. I've worn jeans and once I thought I was going to have to wear a grass skirt. The couple were pulling my leg, it turned out, but I would have if they'd been serious.
And they teased me because they knew me and we'd learned to have fun together. There have been services that were very straight-forward. The couple knew exactly what they wanted and what they wanted me to do and say. Those work, too, because I strive to give my clients exactly the service they most desire.
I'm a very relaxed guy. If you select me, I'll offer you to choice of having fun, laughing, and cutting up together OR we can very serious and focused. The decision will be yours entirely.
I've included much of the enjoyment I get out of wedding in the comments above. Still, I'm looking for the bride to smile and show she's happy. I'm looking for the groom to be relieved the wedding went just as his new bride wanted it to go. I love when the family enjoys interacting, too. I believe this makes the wedding a topic people will enjoy discussing for years when family gathers. Sometimes, I run into guests months or years later who have stories from the wedding to tell me. I really enjoy hearing them.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I begin by talking with the bride and groom, usually over the phone unless I already know them. From there, we arrange to meet together if they want a more elaborate service. When their needs are very simple, everything except the service itself can be handled over the phone. Then, when we meet in person, we will already be prepared to begin the service.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have been a pastor for over 29 years and have done weddings in everything from robes to blue jeans. The service can be as formal or informal as anyone might wish it to be. My Masters degree emphasized the technical aspects of things like weddings, baptisms, etc. My Doctorate emphasized the personnel relationships involved. My wife and I enjoy planning weddings and are eager to help. I can do services without mention of God or those in which covenants are formed with God at the head, as well as anything in between My wife will offer assistance in decorating the church or wedding site, as well as the reception. She can help with arranging food too. We even can help with honeymoon planning! Dr. Glenn Douglass I am a licensed ordained minister. Church of God of Prophecy P. O. Do you have a standard pricing system for your services? If so, please share the details here.
Generally, I ask $155 for a basic religious service within 25 miles of my home in northwestern Lexington, KY. If a couple simply wants a pastor to bless their marriage, I can do very simple services in parks, bookstores, or backyards for $100 or less, depending upon what the couple needs. I have done and will do services at no cost, depending upon the circumstances.
I ask $50 to help with vows, which means arranging the format to best suit the wedding couple and helping select and arrange specific ceremonies/sections within the service itself.
Due to rising travel expenses, I now ask $75 to attend the rehearsal/rehearsal dinner and when traveling longer distances from home, I adjust my base rate to compensate.
How did you get started in this business?
I began when I pastored my first church in Whitley County Kentucky in 1993. I've done weddings as part of the church's direct ministry and as part of my extended ministry. Since being appointed State Ministry Director for "Kentuckians Sowing Generosity" by our bishop, I have been able to expand and reach far beyond the boundaries of a local church.
