Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
After I am hired to cater a job, I usually will meet with the customer at their home, their venue or my location to customize a menu if they're not sure or don't have a menu for their event. After a menu is agreed on I ask the customer to get me a final head count 2 weeks to the event date, send a contract to the customer to look over, sign and mail it with a 20% deposit to secure the date.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I grew up in the business, I learned from both my mother and grandmother. I do a lot of research, travel around to learn different techniques for cooking and always making sure I know what's new out there in my field.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your services? If so, please share the details here.
My pricing is based on the type of service the customer is looking for. I try to be up front and honest with my customers to give them clear picture of how much their event is going to cost with all charge detailed with breakdowns, so there is no hiding charges.
How did you get started in this business?
Food influences include growing up with my mom and grandmom in Ghana. European travel, my recent travel around Australia and too many international friendships to count, some as far back as primary school. This exposure to diverse cultures, flavours, foods and cooking styles is a primary colour on my palate.
What types of customers have you worked with?
Corporate, Private, Wedding Couples, Event Planners, Venues
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
My favorite and successful project is a graduation party I catered for a high school graduate who wants only her favorite items (13 items) on the menu. Her mother was a little hesitant to talk to me about it but we did pull it off and it was one of my favorite successful project and it took about 4 hours.
What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a pro in your area of expertise?
Look for a provider who would listern to your needs and work with you and be calm under any stressful situation. And also treat you like you are the only client they have.
What questions should customers think through before talking to pros about their needs?
First of all, search on line, talk to friends or a planner. Each caterer is different in their style and personality. Make sure you know what you are paying for, put together a check list, Get references and follow through by calling and chatting with them to know what their experiences were with the caterer.
