Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
We like to discuss our customers needs over the phone then will set up and appointment to discuss our services. A complimentary tasting for two is available prior to booking their event.
A contract along with a non-refundable deposit is then finalized to secure the date.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
We have over 50 years combined culinary experience, ServSafe certification(s), and a business/accounting degree.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your services? If so, please share the details here.
Our caterings are priced per person and is based on the catering style selected. Each price is listed on our menu and is kept up to date on our website.
How did you get started in this business?
Our catering business was started in the home over 40 years ago (when that was legal!) by Shirley Sterk (John's mother). John grew up in the catering business and eventually purchased it from his mom. John & Shelly currently own & operate Sterk's Catering in Oberlin.
What types of customers have you worked with?
We have a variety of customers from local families that we have had the pleasure of dealing with for many years to corporate accounts to govemernt offices. Most of our business comes from weddings, but we also do graduations, picnics, showers...you name it and we've probaby caterered it!
What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a pro in your area of expertise?
Sit down and talk with them. Make sure you are comfortable; if it's a caterer, try their food to make sure you enjoy it. When you are comparing different caterers, make sure you understand what is included in the package for the price to ensure you are comparing "apples to apples".
