Elder Javier Alicea

About

I am an ordained elder in the Church of God in Christ, currently serving as Associate Pastor at New Life Church in San Antonio, Texas. Located at 1240 Holbrook Rd., our church is where I’m blessed to lead, serve, teach, and reach both the congregation and our broader community. I earned my Bachelor’s degree in Ministry in 2020, and I’ve been actively serving in vocational ministry for several years with a special heart for those in life’s most vulnerable moments.

For the past four years, I’ve served as a hospice chaplain, walking with individuals and families through some of life’s most sacred and sensitive seasons. I am trained and experienced in the ordinances of the church, including officiating funerals, weddings, baptism, and administering communion. I consider it a privilege to carry the gospel into both the pulpit and the everyday moments where people need Christ the most.

In addition to local ministry, I serve as the Vice President of the Missions Department for the Texas Southwest First Jurisdiction of the Church of God in Christ, which spans 66 churches. At the local level, I function as the President of the Evangelism Department at New Life Church and also teach Sunday School to our children instilling faith in the next generation while fulfilling my regular clergy duties.

Before full-time ministry, I worked in sales, where I honed my ability to connect with people, understand their needs, and communicate with compassion and clarity. That background still informs my ministry today. I’m known for being fun-loving, warm, approachable and yes, a little bit funny. Whether preaching, praying, or just being present, I bring both joy and sincerity to every space I step into.

Ministry for me is not just a calling it’s who I am.

I’ve considered myself a Christian for as long as I can remember. Even as a child, I had a real sense of God’s presence and a personal relationship with Him. I was officially baptized at age 22, but like many, I went through a season of struggle and drifted from the church. In 2017, everything changed when I clearly sensed God’s call to ministry. Since then, I’ve been fully committed to serving Christ and walking in obedience to His Word.

My background has shaped me to be both compassionate and committed. Whether ministering at the altar, officiating a wedding, teaching children, or comforting the dying as a hospice chaplain, I approach each moment with the heart of a servant and the desire to glorify God.
