Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
Face to face consultations are vitally important to the overall success of a session with Dave Ainley Photography. As a highly stylized photographer whose focus is on capturing genuine emotion within my photographs, I don't take a consultation lightly. Photos are way too personal to be treated like a business transaction, so let's get coffee, a beer, or a bite to eat! I want to get to know you and make sure we'll be a good fit for one another!
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I've been a "people person" my entire life, but only started developing my passion for photography as a sophomore in high school. Since 1997, I've continually developed my craft, creating a style within my portraiture that is unique to Dave Ainley Photography. It wasn't until 2003 that I began to blend both my love for photography with my passion for people and relationships, and the results within my portraits have been phenomenal. I have a unique ability to be both creative and extroverted, a combination that is extremely rare in the art world and has served me incredibly well in being able to extract a very broad range of emotions from the people who step in front of my lens.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your services? If so, please share the details here.
Standard portrait sessions with prints range in price form $200-$500, with full packages spanning $1,000-$2,500. We also have custom packages available, so make sure to reach out to us with your budget requests and we'll do our best to accommodate you!
How did you get started in this business?
I was transferring out of an art class and I heard photography was an easy "A". A few years later, my parents needed someone to shoot my brother and cousin's senior portraits, so I reluctantly agreed. As it turned out, I loved it.
What types of customers have you worked with?
I've worked with the coolest people in the world.
What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a pro in your area of expertise?
Make sure to hire someone who you feel a strong connection with. This person will be capturing moments for you that can't be replaced, so feeling comfortable in front of their camera is incredibly important. Also, never hire a photographer based on a price tag. Anyone can snap a photo. Very few people can bring that photograph to life for every person who views it.
