Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
Greeting my client, getting to know them, determining their need, creating a menu, explaining the process of the entire event.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Business Degree, Culinary Training, 15 years experience in the industry.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your services? If so, please share the details here.
My clients can expect a starting range of $25 per person, however, every client's case is unique and we together create a custom menu together that works within their budget.
How did you get started in this business?
My neighbor Gail and I used to get together every weekend for the simple joy of cooking. We would work on specific menus. For example, "let's work on appetizers this weekend" Our husbands would enjoy the benefits of our creativity. Before we knew it, friends were requesting us to cater their events. Gail became ill and wasn't able to work anymore so she cheered me on and encouraged me to move forward. I eventually retired from my legal career and began catering full time.
What types of customers have you worked with?
I work with law enforcement and military. My corporate clients include Wal Mart Distribution Center, Lexus, Girl Scouts of America, BNSF Railroad, Cintas, Kaiser Permanente. My private clients have included brides, graduates, celebrities & political figures. I have catered ongoing meal deliveries for movie shoots on location, corporate meetings, many many weddings, back yard BBQ's and Celebrations of Life.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
A few years ago One Hot Dish Catered the Roy Rogers Legacy Trail of 375 people. Roy & Dale's daughter Mimi was the guest of honor. The Town of Apple Valley's Sheriff, Town manager and Mayor were in attendance. We were met with what they call "Devil Winds". We had to make a last minute decision for safety purposes and BBQ'd off site in a safe location and still delivered fresh, hot food-on time!! The local news made an honorable mention to One Hot Dish for prevailing on the difficult task at hand.
What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a pro in your area of expertise?
