Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
For headshot photography a simple meeting or phone discussion with the client to determine the looks that would work best. Then determine the wardrobe choices on location as well as what location would work best. Most can be decided the day of the shoot.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Masters in production and 30 years of production experience for fiilm and video.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your services? If so, please share the details here.
Generally headshots can range anywhere from $150-$300 depending on how elaborate or how many shots are needed. Production for video is determined by how elaborate the script or set up is and to what degree services are needed.
How did you get started in this business?
I started as a Page at NBC ushering for the Tonight Show with Johnny Carson. I then went on to UCLA to get my masters degree and have since produced video and film projects since then as well as headshot photography.
What types of customers have you worked with?
I've worked with major celebrities and beginning actors and people who aren't in show business at all. Corporate CEOs and people who just wanted some nice images for social media.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
Believe it or not one of the most fun events that occurs on Memorial Day weekend every year is Mule Days in Bishop. It's a celebration of one of the world's most amazing animals!
What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a pro in your area of expertise?
Have some idea of what you want. Think about the audience you want to reach. Think in terms of conversation not "preaching" or "selling". How do you just introduce an idea through a conversation or an opening "hook"?
What questions should customers think through before talking to pros about their needs?
They should think about what they really want to say. Think about what images would mean the most to their audience. And who is their audience? When it comes to photographs and video and imagery what do you want to convey. Find a photo or commercial or story that you like that's told visually and use that as a reference for your videographer or photographer. We use "mood boards" all the time. It's simply photos that look like the types of shots we're trying to get.
