I love everything about photography...it is quite simply my passion, and I love to take photographs of just about anything. The best part of the entire process is to see the happiness on a clients face when I give them the finished images. I have experience with weddings, large-scale events, portraits, graduations, and reunions of up to 150 people. I have a portable studio that I can bring to a clients home or business for intimate personal portraits or any other kind of portfolio images they may need. I have recently added a drone and am working on my FAA certification so I can offer aerial photos and video. What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

I try to put myself in the shoes of my client and think about their lives. What are they like? What kind of interests and hobbies do they have? If I ask plenty of questions and listen, most people will give me great ideas of how to understand their needs and create some great images!

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I graduated from the University of Colorado Boulder in 2015 with a BA in Studio Arts with Photography emphasis and a minor in Technology, Arts and Media. I have owned my own photography business for the last 13 years and have worked with a wide variety of wonderful clients.

Do you have a standard pricing system for your services? If so, please share the details here.

I do not have a standard pricing system since every shoot is different. I try to work with the clients budget if possible.

How did you get started in this business?

I have been thrilled with photography since I picked up my first 35mm camera back in my Army days in the 70's. Years later, I started picking up jobs at the university when I went back to finish college. After years in sales and the service industry, working with people and getting to be creative with the camera at the same time was a perfect match!

What types of customers have you worked with?

From a pregnant friend that needed some maternity pictures, to an antique roadshow type auction, to a Broadway theater group, I have worked with a wonderfully diverse bunch of clients over the years!

Describe a recent event you are fond of.

For the last 2 years I have been learning Real Estate photography. I really enjoy the lighting challenges associated with shooting inside. In most cases, shooting indoors requires blending several images together to create a composite image that showcases a property.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a pro in your area of expertise?

If you can, make a brief list of your needs. Try to have a budget in mind before you book a shoot. Think of what style you want, if the photographer's gallery doesn't exactly convey what you want ask questions! Most photographer's have many other personal images that aren't always posted on-line, and they can always help you visualize what you may want.

What questions should customers think through before talking to pros about their needs?

The photographer's portfolio should reflect the style that will be delivered to the client so that there aren't any surprises. Think about your budget first, then what kind of story you want to tell. Always meet and at least talk to the photographer on the phone if you can. In most cases, a professional photographer will have a good idea of what you are trying to achieve. A good photographer should have good people skills so don't be afraid to give them a call!
