Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
customers contact a via phone or e-mail. If the date they are requesting is available we begin the basic process of figuring out their needs and giving them an average sense of costs. A $100.00 deposit secures the date and then the personalization and planning begins.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I started this business 26 years ago by interviewing my child clients and then making their dreams and requests a reality. I have a degree in theatre from the University of the Arts in Philadelphia, PA. I will be the first to admit that when I began I had no idea of what I was doing, but with over 4000 parties under my belt, I've learned a thing or two.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your services? If so, please share the details here.
There is a base rate of $900.00 and then everything is ala carte - you can add decor, crafts, goodies and more, but everything goes up from the starting fee. Most events run between $1500.00 and $3500.00 depending on the number of children. Most corporate events run $3000.00 to $10,000.00
How did you get started in this business?
I was working as an actress and babysitter in the bay area. One of my charges was having her birthday and asked me to plan it. I put everything together with my little client (when I started no one was planning parties for kids). We had an amazing time and went all out, turning the garage into a pink princess palace complete with a dungeon for the boys. We planned games, activities and even made our own pinata. It was such a hit that all the parents there asked me to plan their parties, and before I knew it I was doing 5 parties a weekend. That has now grown to as many as 3 per day.
What types of customers have you worked with?
everyone from local libraries (where I donate my time to creating crafting programs) to big corporations like Google, Slack and Intuitive Surgical.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
We do the most amazing Harry Potter parties out there!
What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a pro in your area of expertise?
Plan ahead. Although there are times when we will have a random opening, there are very busy times (September through December/ April through June) when you need at least 3 to 6 months to book a date. We try to accommodate everyone, but there are just some times when we have to close our calendar. Also, have a sense of your budget upfront. That way we can know how to best serve the customer.
What questions should customers think through before talking to pros about their needs?
Do you need a professional planner? Or do you just need advice? We are always happy to advise clients or steer them in the direction of what they need if we are out of their budget or not what they need.
