Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
After the initial phone call, we schedule a consultation. This is where we'll go over the details of your session, everything from wardrobe to products. We'll then finalize your session date and time.
The day of your session, we'll start with hair and makeup if you have included it, we'll also take a moment to get to know you and your family a little better, and then we'll start shooting. Our Standard Session includes up to 1 hour of shooting and our Signature Session includes up to 3 hours. Once we are finished shooting, we will schedule your Image Reveal Appointment.
You will come back 2-3 weeks after your Image Reveal. I will personally select 30-40 of your most amazing images and hand-correct them to perfection. When you arrive, you will get to see a Video Montage of your session, complete with behind-the-scenes clips. Then, you will get to see a display of all of your beautiful images printed and matted. You will be able to touch and hold your images, and I will help you make your final selection. You will be able to immediately take home any Legacy Prints or Folio Collection you decide to purchase that day. We will schedule a separate pickup/delivery appointment for any additional items in your order.
At your White Glove Delivery Appointment, we will hand-deliver any wall portraits or specialty items in your order, ensure that it is correct, and help hang any wall portraits you have purchased with us.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I continually take photography courses to better my craft. I hold a degree in Fine Art Photography and studied at The Academy of Art, The Art Institute, and College of the Canyons.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your services? If so, please share the details here.
I believe in only paying for the images you love. And if you don't like them, then you don't have to buy them.
My Standard Session is $150. It includes a Consultation, 1 hour shoot, 1 look/outfit, snacks and refreshments, and an Image Reveal appointment. Hair and makeup can be added on.
My Signature Session is $475. It inlcudes a Consultation and Styling Session, complimentary hair and makeup, an up to 3 hour magazine-styled shoot, up to 5 looks/outfits, snacks and refreshments, lunch, and an Image Reveal appointment.
My images come retouched with the digital copy and start on the wall at $250 and go up from there. Some people spend $400, some spend $4000. In the end, whatever you decide to purchase is entirely up to you. I do not hard sell.
How did you get started in this business?
My sister and I use to model when we were teenagers. For those of you who don't know, you're required to update your portfolio A LOT when you're under 18, which means it was quite costly.
My sister and I thought it would be a great idea to buy a professional camera and take our own photos to save money. Because you know, if you have a nice camera you're all of a sudden a professional photographer, right? We quickly found out how WRONG we were. And so, our super nice camera went into storage.
When college finally rolled around, my sister went off to study culinary arts, and I majored in music. Since I had that super nice camera that was just collecting dust, I decided to enroll in a Wedding, Event, and Portraiture class as my elective.
As I learned more about photography, I became more interested in it. But my defining moment was when my teacher asked me to assist her on a wedding. When she reviewed the images I took for her she told me, "You know, you shoot just as well as I do, if not better. I think you have what it takes to make a career out of this." That was the moment when I realized that I had a talent for photography. And after my first session when I saw the smiles on my clients' faces, I knew this was what I wanted to do, this was my passion.
What types of customers have you worked with?
Families, children, high school seniors, babies, newborns, pets, models, brides and grooms, cosplay clients, etc.
What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a pro in your area of expertise?
You get what you pay for. And if someone is charging next to nothing for their services, that's probably about how much experience they have.
If high-end photography and boutique products aren't something you're looking for, that's fine. There are plenty of low-end photographers out there. But if having quality portraits is truly important to you, do you really want to risk it by being someone's practice shoot?
Digital is not archivable, but print is. If a disk gets damaged, it's trash, but if a print gets damaged, it can be restored. Whether you choose to go with us or another professional, you chose a professional photographer because you wanted beautiful portraits, so allow them to serve you all the way through by creating custom artwork that will last.
What questions should customers think through before talking to pros about their needs?
1. Why are you looking to hire a professional photographer?
Remember, hiring a professional photographer is an investment. Knowing why you want to invest in professional portraits will help you select the right photographer for you.
2. What are you looking to have photographed, or what type? People, products, landscape, etc...? If people, how many and what kind (adults, children, babies, etc.)?
Just because they're a photographer doesn't mean they shoot everything. Even a portrait photographer may have a specific clientele they shoot.
3. Why are you getting portraits done? Is there a special occasion, like the holidays or family reunion? Is it a once-in-a-lifetime event, like a wedding or your baby's first birthday? Is it just for fun?
The more critical your portraits are to you, the more likely you'll want a professional photographer.
4. How will the images be used, or where will they be displayed? A big wall in your living room? At work? On your website? Are they gifts for someone else?
Determining your products beforehand can help you find the right photographer for you.
5. Do you want regular images and prints, or do you want pictures and products that are unique and custom? Something that wows your guests or clients?
Not all photographers are the same. Experience, shooting style, equipment, location, services, and products all make a difference in how your images will turn out.
6. What is your time frame? Do you need something quick, or can you wait?
The higher the quality of service and products, the longer the entire process will take. So, the less time you have, the lower the quality of service and products you'll receive.
7. What style are you looking for? Traditional, candid, photojournalistic, etc...?
You can tell a professional photographer's style from their portfolio. When you look at it, if you think, "Wow, this is how I want my images to look," then they fit your style. But if you're not thrilled by their images, and you're just choosing them because you think any photographer will do or because they are cheap, then you will most likely be disappointed in your images.
8. What services are you looking for? Someone who travels? Editing and retouching? Delivery?
There is more to photography than just taking the photos. Professional or not, every photographer offers a different experience overall. Some do the bare minimum while others take care of you from start to finish.
9. What products are you interested in? Artwork, albums, prints, digital, etc...?
Not all photographers offer the same products, and not all products cost the same. You may not care for the more boutique products provided by a high-end photographer, but a cheaper one may not be able to get you the products you want.
10. Do you want to be outdoors or indoors? Do you require a studio?
Most mobile photographers do not have a studio space and therefore shoot on location. Some have the equipment to set up a studio in your home or office and others only shoot outdoors. Most outdoor places are public, which means you might have to share the space with others. Not all studios offer privacy either.
