I have been a client of Nikkis for 2 years and she is extremely knowledgeable and talented with installing and maintaining a variety of hair extensions. I have the non sew beaded weft extensions. What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
Typically clients will book a consultation online or fill out the Question form on my website. Clients can also text me directly, though I kindly ask for patience with responses for text messages. I manage my own scheduling, so I respond to texts in between clients.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
2007-2009 I was blessed to attend Cosmetology school (with advanced focus on hair extensions) through the ROP program as a junior in high school. I graduated high school early at 17, and shortly after graduated cosmetology school at 18. Being a licensed cosmetologist at 18 allowed me to start my career early, and I'm so thankful that my high school counselor recommended cosmetology.
In 2010 I created the NSBW technique after having clients reach out about their experience with thread breakage on their sew-in method. My goal was to create a method free of glue and thread to eliminate tedious issues. I had a wonderful response from the clients about NSBW, and all of my clients switched to NSBW. How did you get started in this business?
I like to say I started when I was 5, because all of my barbies were bald by the time Christmas came around. I started doing friend's hair in high school, and showed up to my guidance counselor appointment with green hair. She recommended the ROP cosmetology program, and that is where I fell in love with hair extensions.
What types of customers have you worked with?
Being licensed for 16 years has blessed me with the opportunity to work with clients from all walks of life. I've worked with clients from different professions, cultures, religions, and gender identities. I love meeting people and hearing their stories. I believe that everyone's life could be a movie. It's my goal to make hair extensions accessible to as many people as possible. Connecting with people and helping people feel good about themselves is my passion.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
The most recent event that pops into my head was the watch party I attended at my sister's for Love is Blind season 5. It was so wholesome and fun being present with my family, binge watching guilty pleasures.
What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a pro in your area of expertise?
I would say to find someone who has photos of work they've done on a similar hair type to yours.
What questions should customers think through before talking to pros about their needs?
Hair goals, budget, and maintenance schedule are the big 3.
