Bender's is the preeminent sports bar on the Boulder Turnpike, in large part because of our food. Our menu is well above typical bar food bill of fare. We offer various barbecue options, including smoked wings, smoked meatloaf, smoked turkey and smoked pulled pork. Officials at the University of Colorado got wind of our food quality and it led to Bender's securing the contract to cater the press box at Folsom Field for CU football games. We've also served as the official caterer for the Butterfly Pavilion in Westminster. That doesn't happen, particularly with a locally-owned, non-chain restaurant, unless you know what you're doing. We know what we're doing, and we love what we're doing. We've also done high-end catering including prime rib and cajun fish. It's the 21st century, you gotta multi-task! Our goal is to be better than anyone would realistically expect. Case in point: Instead of having chicken wings, we have crunchy coated wings and smoked wings that just may be the best in metro Denver. Our menu of smoked meats -- including our semi-famous meatloaf, which we smoked for 3 hours -- is absolutely killer. And we also boldly go where other sports bars don't. We've done upscale catering such as prime rib and Cajun fish. And we're doing a Thanksgiving buffet which includes, among other things, smoked turkey. It's the best I've ever had, which brings me to my rule of thumb for cooking: If I love it, I take my chances that my customers will, too. I'm 62 years old and I do what I do because I love it. I could have retired a few years ago, but I'm having too much fun. I have better things to do -- if you've seen how much work my golf handicap needs, you'd know what I'm talking aboutg -- than serve people marginal food.
