Besides working as a waiter in college I have always supported myself thru photography and video.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your services? If so, please share the details here.
PHOTOGRAPHY: $100/ hour 2 hour minimum, plus photo editing.
VIDEO PRODUCTION: $125/ hr. 4hr. minimum, Editing $95. per hour.
How did you get started in this business?
Started photography in high school and paid for college by working at a tv studio.
Worked for Newspapers and TV Stations for 10 years and since then worked as a freelancer for many companies. VERIZON, KENNEDY Center, CBS, NBC, PBS, Disney, Knights of Columbus, National Symphony and many more.
What types of customers have you worked with?
Individuals, large and small businesses, TV Networks, Smithsonian, couples getting married.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I had photographed and videotaped some interviews with a clients father.
The father died and for the funeral I edited a 7 minute video about his life, displayed many photos of him and taped the funeral memorial service.
Another client had me shoot family portraits and a year latter he died and the family asked me to display the photos for the funeral.
I recently shot a wedding for a couple that didn't have much of a budget because he was $250.000 in debt for law school and no job. The wedding looked great and they had my pictures as a great memory. And he now has a job.
What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a pro in your area of expertise?
Work with the pro, if you don't have much of a budget be honest and ask advice about saving money.
Be pleasant and work as a team with the photographer.
