Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I like to chat on the phone or do facetime before each shoot. That way we can get to know one another a bit first. I find this makes each shoot go smoother since both parties will already know what they want to get out of the shoot.
At the start of each shoot I like to get any payments or paperwork out of the way. Then we go over the looks we are going to shoot and in what order.
After that it's all about having fun in front of the lens!
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I studied fashion photography and worked as a studio photographer in Manhattan NY for 3 years. In 2016 I received a BA in Photography and Digital Design from Empire State College. At that time, I enjoyed interning as a photojournalist at NY Fashion week.
Before studying in NYC, I worked as a family portrait photographer at the retail studio, Olan Mills. I learned several great posing methods and other portraiture skills during my two years there. Around that time, I was also hired as a school portrait photographer. The experience strengthened my studio photography skills, especially with children!
Additionally, I studied photography in my hometown, St. Louis Missouri. I received an Associate's Degree in Photography from St. Louis Community College in 2009.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your services? If so, please share the details here.
My standard rate is $200 for a one hour portrait session. This inlcludes all of the images from the shoot with your choice of 2 retouched at expert level. Additional retouched photos are $35 each. I include a $25 travel fee for shoot locations outside of my area in West St Petersburg.
How did you get started in this business?
I began my journey photographing for my high school year book in 1998.
What types of customers have you worked with?
Families, products for department stores, business professionals, fashion models and others in the entertainment industry.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
Photographing the Trashion Fashion show at Art Pool in St. Petersburg. I love being a part of events that happen for a good cause. This event utilized fashion to promote our ability to reduce, reuse, and recycle - even on the runway!
What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a pro in your area of expertise?
Interview the photographer before-hand. Either through face time, over the phone, but preferably in person. The best photographs come when the photographer and their client is comfortable around one another, and can communicate well.
What questions should customers think through before talking to pros about their needs?
Be prepared to comminicate with the photographer what the photos are going to be used for (where they will be shown such as an invitation, prints, or social media) as well as how many finished photos with different poses they will need.
