About
Hello, I'm John Grogan, originally from the northwest mountains of North Carolina where I practiced my love of photography, both as a commercial and landscape photographer. I studied photography and business at East Carolina University, later studied photography at the Art Institute of Atlanta. I enjoy teaching photography at different art centers and colleges. I'm now celebrating 40 years as a professional photographer. Over this time there is not much I haven't experienced or encountered.
A point to consider when choosing your photographer, the lowest price, most of the time, usually shows inexperience and uncertainty about themselves and their abilities. Highest prices sometimes shows vanity. Pick the photographer based on their body of work and their experience to deliver the images you seek. You're not paying for drug store prints, you are paying for, in my case, the experience I have to deliver work on a professional level and the knowledge I have accumulated over my career. And that's a good point too. My career, not a passing fad or something to do while I'm in between jobs, but instead my career. I use top of the line Nikon equipment, not entry level stuff. 40 years in the business speaks loudly of my conviction to my career and experience. I love what I do, and it shows.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a pro in your area of expertise?
In my area or any area, make sure you are hiring a professional. So many folks can buy a digital camera and call themselves a pro. Be careful, make sure they have the experience to handle most all situations around the business of photography. Don't decide based solely on price. Most of the time you get what you pay for, cheap price, cheap work. Low price also suggests inexperience.
What questions should customers think through before talking to pros about their needs?
Have a good visual of what you are wanting from the photographer. Be prepared to talk to the photographer about the details and expectations of the photographer. Make sure that both of you are on the same page concerning what needs to be delivered, the price of the photography, and when the photography is due. Have you given the photographer a reasonable amount of time to properly conplete your assignement.
