About
For nearly 25 years, Rob Kaufman has been one of the premier photographers serving the greater Hilton Head/Bluffton area. With thousands of photos published in local magazine, websites and advertisements, Rob is perhaps the most recognized photographer in the area and has been named "Best Photographer on Hilton Head" numerous times in area Reader's Choice awards.
Since I specialize in several photographic disciplines (archtecture, food, events and portraits), my job is somethign different every day. On Monday I can be hanging out the door of a helicopter capturing aerial images for a commercial client, and the next day be capturing a portrait of a family of four on the beach. A food shoot for a local cuisine magazine can happen on Wednesday and by Saturday night I'm shooting the "I do's" for a couple that have chosen beautiful Hilton Head for their destination wedding.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
A phone call or an in person meeting are usually the best ways to get a feel for what a customer needs and the type of photography they like and that will work best for their commercial or personal needs.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
The bulk of my work is commercial in nature and my background includes a B.A. in Advertising from Michigan State University. Go Green!
Do you have a standard pricing system for your services? If so, please share the details here.
Depending on the project, I offer clients Full Day, Half Day or Hourly rates. The fees will vary based on the intended final use of the photos and wether or not they want to lock down exclusive use of the images, or if I retain rights to license the images to third parties.
How did you get started in this business?
Photography is a hobby turned profession. I started getting paid by a locla magazine to shoot images in the mid 90s and it just grew from there.
What types of customers have you worked with?
Ad agencies, celebrities, marketing directors, national companies, local businesses and thousands of ordinary folks who just want great images of their personal events and gatherings.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
Billionaire Arthur Blank has a home on Hilton Head and hosts an annual golf outing and dinner for many of his Atlanta Falcons front office, players and friends. I had a great time capturing candids of Mr. Blank with many NFL legends and rising stars.
What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a pro in your area of expertise?
Obviously take a look at thier work, but more importantly get to know them as a person. I will be honest - many photographers I've met in my career are pompous jerks and think that every photo they take is a masterwork of art. My style is more relaxed - I keep in mind that a photo is only great if it fulfils the needs of the customer who commissioned it.
What questions should customers think through before talking to pros about their needs?
What are my goals in commissioning these photos? Do I just want something pretty to hang over the mantle, or am I trying to drive customers into my store? What type of image will work for that and does this photographer's style match that?
