Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
The first thing I like to do with a new client is to set the basework for good communication- let's make sure we're on the same page with a discussion of expectations, reference images and an organized timeline. It's essential to manage all expectations with regard to time, cost and outcome- doing this early on helps me have a great relationship with my clients.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Attended the reknowned Joe Blasco Makeup Center in Los Angeles during 2006-7, then began working in the Film and Television Industry in 2008, along with running a successful hair and makeup studio in Charlotte for the last 20 years.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your services? If so, please share the details here.
Pricing is based on the scope of work- because each client and project is unique, a standard pricing system is difficult to come up with- I tend to let people put together their own packages with an "a la carte" style service menu.
How did you get started in this business?
My first beauty industry work was hair- for over 20 years, I have run a varienty of different sized salons- but as much as I love hair, my main passion is makeup. In 2006, I decided to go for it- learning all the pro techniques at the Joe Blasco Makeup Center in Hollywood, and bringing that knowledge back to my salon clients, as well as actors and actresses in the production side of my life.
What types of customers have you worked with?
As mentioned above, I've worked with the full spectrum of different customer types- from the busiest of moms, business professionals, teachers and CEO's - fabulous everyday women- all the way to celebrities of various ages and characters- and I've enjoyed every one of them!!
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
Recently, I had the great experience of working on a comedy pilot for HBO, had a blast!
What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a pro in your area of expertise?
Have a consultation first- even if it's quick, over the phone- this brief encounter can set the stage for the rest of your working relationship. Make sure you and the stylist connect well- are you able to understand what the other is saying? Similar communication styles are important! Check out their portfolio or website- they may be immensely talented, but is it the style you're looking for?
What questions should customers think through before talking to pros about their needs?
It always helps when a client has some references to what they'd like to achieve, as well as a general budget. I'm more than happy to offer suggestions when a client doesn't have a clear direction, but if you decide to give the stylist more freedom, trust that stylist you've chosen! We're artists and consider each client specifically when setting up a plan for action!
