About
My photographic career began when, as Art Director of "Nashville Magazine" I was not getting what I wanted from our freelance photographers. So, I bought a camera and went to one of the best photographers in town, Joe Bomar, and asked him to teach me how to use it. I've been taking professional photographs ever since. In 1980, I delivered a multi projector slide show to the Denver chapter of Mensa titled “A Left Brain, Right Brain Approach to Photography.”

Dear Walt, I wanted to tell you how I enjoy the pictures that you create. The first one in my collection is the majestic “Hawk”. I love the additions of real feathers that extend onto the matting. Another feature that gives the picture life is that wherever you are in the room or in just passing by, the eyes appear to follow you.
The second is “Jan’s Rose”. It has special meaning for me, I am extremely fond of both roses and butterflies. I feel such a sense of peace when I look at this picture, many people admire not only the subject matter, but the lovely colors and the artistic enhancement. They frequently ask “is that a photograph or a painting?” The monarch’s perch alludes to preparation to take flight. I liked the picture so much that I requested that you design my business logo from this picture. Thank you. In appreciation

Dear Walt,
I wanted to let you know how much my whole family has enjoyed the picture of the butterfly on the rose. We love that the butterfly and top of the rose pop out of the background. We have received positive comments from several people about the uniqueness of the picture.
The picture was displayed in the loft of our house where it could be seen from the entry way. It was seen and admired by friends and family as they entered our home. Our 6 year old twin granddaughters love it so much that they wanted it in their bedroom at our house. I said okay, but they argue as to whose bed it should be hung above. Elise is the proud winner at the moment and the butterfly hangs above her bed.
Also, the girls 10 year old brother admires the picture from a biologists point of view. He reminds me that Monarch butterflies are becoming very rare and that it is so nice to have a really good picture of one. I only saw one on my butterfly bush all summer. We used to get a lot of them passing through here in late summer. Thanks to you, we now know that the butterflies also like roses.
The picture was one of the best purchases I have made. Thank you for your talent.

Dear Walt: We want to remind you of how much we enjoy the four pictures we bought from you several years ago. They have been constant reminders of our time walking the shorelines of Southern California.
The Kissing Gulls picture with the realistic wave action that hangs in our dining area is especially memorable because we have experienced that same scene many times. It is always a joy to see those gulls ride the wind and then sit on the waves. Thank you for bringing that memory back to us.
Looking forward to visiting your next showing.

In spring of 2014 my wife Jenny and I came across Walt Thomas’ artwork and were very impressed. I noticed that Jenny was especially interested in one of Walt’s piece. I knew immediately what my wife was going to receive for her birthday just a few weeks away.
I coordinated the purchase with Walt and his wife; what a wonderful and warm couple. Walt was able to find a frame with carved roping along the outer edge that complemented the nautical theme perfectly. He was very invested in making this a great gift for my wife and ensuring everything I asked for was done to perfection. Walt is an extremely talented artist as well as a warm and caring individual. You’ll be better for the experience.
