Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
Client and I partner doing each step - IN ORDER: 1. Define the project; 2. Define the audience; 3. Define the budget; 4. Develop a script - or at least an outline; 5. Audition and cast for talent (if needed); 6. Shoot video according to the script/outline; 7. Create a soundtrack (if separate from the shot elements); 8. Edit (including sp. fx, graphics, art, music, etc.); 9. Client review/critique; 10. Revise edit; 11. Final approval; 12. Release/upload final video files to client (typically an HD mp4)
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
B.S. degree in Business & Radio-TV (double-major); 41 years in the business of TV/video production; 37 years continually self-employed as Bass Communcations; having created in excess of 1,000 videos in those 37 years for clients in all sectors of the economy, from several states in the USA - small budgets and large.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your services? If so, please share the details here.
Pricing is all based upon TIME: how much time to plan, how much time to shoot, how much time to edit, how much crew (in addition to myself) is needed - if any; "Day rates" (9 hours) start at $900 for a full EFP 4k/HD package, half-day rates start at $650. Editing varies by the amount needed and is based on hourly rates.
How did you get started in this business?
By design.
What types of customers have you worked with?
Aviation, retail, Dept of Defense, city/municipal government, federal government, state government, manufacturing, food/restaurant, construction, non-profit, ministry/religious, mining/heavy industry, utilities, medical/health, petroleum, tourism (city)
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
Tourism video for the City of Farmers Branch, TX; getting rave reviews; continually shooting new footage to update; one of a long sequence of videos created for this municipal client - some of which have won national awards for city communications and marketing
What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a pro in your area of expertise?
Know your audience, know your budget, know your message: What three things do you want your audience to KNOW or DO once they've watched the video? Recognize that quality is not necessarily found by hiring the lowest bidder. There's a reason good videos are not cheap. If you want the cheapest video, save your time and avoid contacting me. If you want a GOOD VALUE and a video for which you will not have to apologize, I look forward to talking with you!
What questions should customers think through before talking to pros about their needs?
If you want REVIEWS (see below), ask me. I don't disclose client email addresses - and I won't disclose yours if we do business. After 37 years, I've got LOTS of positive reviews. No one stays in business UNDER THE SAME COMPANY NAME and IN THE SAME MARKET that long without doing some things right. Just ask me for reviews and I'll give them - but I'm not posting them for professional reasons.
