Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
When meeting a new guest, I like to get a feel for not only what they are looking for but also who they are. A thorough consultation is key, and ideally it is in person, although I also offer video consultations.
Before the visit I have all new guests fill out a consultation form, including photos and hair history.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I started my cosmetology journey at Paul Mitchell the School in Dallas, then went on to get my Instructor license.
I am constantly taking classes online, and in person when I can, to further my education and expand my skill set.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your services? If so, please share the details here.
My haircuts are a straightforward price, I do not separate services by gender or age.
Chemical services like color, highlights and smoothing have a starting price and based on length and density do go up.
How did you get started in this business?
Even as a young child I loved playing with hair, be it a Barbie doll or a friend. In middle school I started being adventurous with my own hair but never committed to wanting to be a stylist. A couple year after high school I realized I loved doing my own hair, and got immense joy from changing my look, so maybe it was time to pursue that for others.
When I started Outside the Lines, it was so I could be a stay at home mom AND work on my passion. I worked only evenings and weekends until I outgrew my garage salon and was able to get a space of my own!
What types of customers have you worked with?
I have worked with clients from all walks of life, all genders and ages. I hope to be a safe space for any client, regardless of what stage of life they are in.
What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a pro in your area of expertise?
Don't be afraid to ask for a video or in person consultation before committing to an appointment! It may take a little extra time but it can be the best way to see if you're going to be a good fit and for the stylist to see your hair and give you not only an accurate quote but also if your desired look is achievable.
What questions should customers think through before talking to pros about their needs?
My two biggest questions to a client, especially a new client, are:
When have you been happiest/unhappiest with your hair?
What is your daily routine/ideal maintainence.
A client knows their hair and lifestyle better than anyone, and those questions help ensure you get a cut/style that flatter you abs are easy to keep up with. You don't want a high maintence style if you don't have the time or desire to spend time on it, or constantly coming back for upkeep.
