Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
Find out more about their needs and formulate a shot-list upon which to accurately estimate, based on my standard rate structure.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I trained under renouned photography instructor Bob Runyon for 3 years, then assisted other studio and architectural photographers, then completed an AA degree in commercial photogrphy, before starting my own business in 1984. I have also taken many seninars and training in lighting and Photoshop.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your services? If so, please share the details here.
Yes, however there are a number of categories, hourly rates, and itemized charges, based on the nature of the assignment. Photogrphy assignments vary widely, from simple products on white, to complex ad image concepts with live models, to architectural images requiring travel. Post production work, such as knock-outs also commonly requested.
How did you get started in this business?
I had taken photography all through junior high and highschool and started photographing for hire.
What types of customers have you worked with?
I have served a wide variety of clients over my career thus far and have sample JPGs to show of many sucessfull jobs for different industries.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
Many projects involve challenges regarding how products or places naturally react to lighting, or angles of view, or creating an appropriate setting. Therefore "telling the story" so people get an accurate impression of a product or space often requires "creative solutions".
What advice would you give a customers looking to hire a vendor in your area of expertise?
Photographs are not a known comodity, thus to compare apples to apples your really need to discuss project and have a specific shot-list upon which to gather estimates.
What questions should customers think through before talking to vendors about their needs?
How many deliverd photographs are really needed in the end (you don't neeed to pad shot-list with an experienced professional, but certainly do with a greener shooter), so estimates are accurate to your needs.
Also, does your project require supplemental lighting to look it's best, or Photoshop work?
