You have to sift through many photographers these days who think the business is just about having a decent camera and some decent editing skills. While those skills are a must have for a professional photographer, there are very few who understand the proper relationship with the client.
The thing I enjoy most about the work I do is the human connection. When working in portraiture, its not about simply positioning a subject and snapping a few photos to get the most well exposed and best looking shot. Its about capturing a small slice of who they are as a person. So when I am successful at really capturing someones personality in the way they smile, or in their own enviornment its a very fufilling feeling.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
Photography is a service. One that requires respect and care as well as trust and understanding. When I work with a new client I like to take a few minutes to get to know them before shooting. You can never know a person entirely in only a few minutes, but you can establish a connection. When shooting people its important to establish a connection as its obviously a huge part of being human.
What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a pro in your area of expertise?
Look for someone who has a style and aesthetic in thier photography that you personally enjoy. Hiring a photographer is about meeting your personal needs and expectations, while providing expertise about the best way to get the result you want.
As far as boudoir or more intimate types of photography are concerned ensure your photographer is open and willing to your needs regarding safety and comfort. If they do not allow you to bring company for safety then don't hire them.
Make sure your photographers communications are Friendly and professional.
Also make sure your are familiar with basic for hire contracting.
What questions should customers think through before talking to pros about their needs?
Whenever you hire a professional for a service, its always a good idea to think about what you are looking for before hand. Think about what you want. When you visit a barber you always know the type of cut your looking for. And a barber or stylist that gives you feedback is a great barber. Some with any skill based service. So ask yourself, what kind of photograph am I looking for? What are my intended uses for the photograph? How much am I willing to spend on the photograph? What kind of look do I want?
The best thing to do is give the professional a well rounded out idea of what your looking for, then let the professional help you find it and deliver upon it.
In the case of this site, it will more than likely benefit you to breifly explain in the message section what exactly you are looking to have done.
