About

Braid Street LLC, was founded by Soely Xylia, a Marine Corps Veteran from Brooklyn, who brought her braid skills and warm vibes to the West Coast. ‘Braid Street’ is the brand Soely created for her protective hairstyling services. Her quality stands out! Soely provides discounts to Active Duty & their Spouses. As a Veteran, it’s important to Soely to give back to her brothers and sisters in arms. They share an uncanny experience through sacrifice.

Braid street is more than a place to get Styled by Soely; it also provides a space for comrade plus a nostalgic feeling. Soely refers to Braid Street as “The block”. The block is referred to as a nostalgic place in where people go to gather when they want to be with family, refill their love tanks and to let loose. The Braid street culture embodies empowerment, fashion standouts, conversation, “tribe” and family, and lastly good & positive vibes. Braid Street’s Mission is to give back to the community through hair. Educating our young and mature afro Latino population on proper natural hair care is an important attribute to Soely’s brand.

Soely is looking to grow her brand through spreading education on natural hair care while inspiring others to take their skills to the next level and create a freein lifestyle. Soely shares her skills through online courses and in-person teaching.

Braid street is a hub for braids, mind and hair health, comradare, and to refill your confidence tank.

What I enjoy the most about my service is the confidence level of my clients are instantly raised after completion of the hairstyle. Secondly, I enjoy the conversations that I have with my clients, genuinely. We spend anywhere from two hours to six hours together and in this time it is important that I make my client feel comfortable as well as make sure I feel comfortable. I am blessed to have been surrounded by Many individuals who share similar characteristics to myself. I also enjoy speaking with people with differing opinions as we can discuss different issues stemming from different perspectives. This allows for growth, and I am all about that whether it's for myself for my clients.

    Frequently asked questions

When working with a new client, I typically like to have contact before our appointment. This digital meeting will be to discuss hair texture hair length, and any other issues that the client may have with your natural hair. Also during this consult, we will discuss hairstyle expectation, as well as travel accommodations and hair extension preference.

I have a bachelors degree in business administration. I am a self-taught braider and have been breeding for over 15 years. Professional breeder/protective hairstylist for two years. No cosmetology license, as breathing is not taught in cosmetology schools.

My standard rate for at least one hour of work is $60 for the hour, styles and pricing are based on the length of time it takes to complete.

I was first invited in 2018 to attend and volunteer for the San Diego natural hair and health expo. In preparation for the expo, I was asked by the creator of the event to provide any breathing skills that I have to the event. Before this event I was always braiding my own hair and was occasionally breeding for others. I never considered Making this a business, but when it was brought to my attention that my work is valuable and there's a need for it in the industry, I hopped on the opportunity.

I have worked with many people from different backgrounds and ages. The demographics I typically serve our Marine Corps, active duty females, young mixed race kids, and many others who simply do not want to do their own hair and would like to save money.

The most recent event I was fond of was at the California State University San Marcos campus, natural hair show.

A piece of advice I would give is to keep in mind that as a protective stylist/breeder a cosmetology license is not required. Along the same lines, there are services that are provided by a cosmetologist that are legally not the same for a breeder. For example if you are looking to provide hair washing services and blow drying services on top of your braids, you are allowed, as a breeder, to charge additional for the services. However, if you are a licensed cosmetologist the services are expected to be included in the total price for the clients.

Before talking to the professionals about your needs, please consider the amount of time it may take for this person to get back to you. Many of the styles that we do take anywhere from two hours to six hours. With that said, it may take some time for your questions to be answered, please give the professional at least 24 to 48 hours to respond back. Also in this important time, it's necessary to consider the professionals cancellation policy as well as discuss in advance your expectations.
