Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
Clients call or email us asking about services or training
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
We offer prep course training so people can obtain their FAA commercial drone license. Many companies use us to train their staff so they can legally shoot photos, video, or use tools on the drones and be in compliance with the federal law. We also provide hands-on flight training to people looking to learn how to pilot their own drones or our school's drones.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your services? If so, please share the details here.
Our services vary so much from someone needing a reassurance flight on a drone they just purchased, hands-on flight courses to prepare them for securing employment as a professional drone pilot, or very detailed drone services such as aerial photography, cinematography, inspections, construction progress shots, digital twins, 3D models, security and more. It is hard to provide a standard as also each site we deploy to can be an easy to reach site or involve very remote areas to work in.
How did you get started in this business?
I started building UAS 30 years ago and as the technology evolved, it became more and more used in the professional environment. Im also a commercial helicopter and airplane pilot. What we can do with drones today is definitely cheaper, safer, less obstructive, and at a higher quality than the helicopter or airplane can provide. Yea we have reached that point!
What types of customers have you worked with?
Every type of customer you can imagine….
Real estate brokers/agents, insurance companies and adjusters, engineers, contractors, scientists, yacht crews, military, FAA personnel, local and state government agencies, police depts, podcasters, music video producers, art galleries, TV/Film…… and it’s so much fun to work with everyone to show them how we can use the drones to capture whatever they need.
What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a pro in your area of expertise?
Ask if they are Part107 licensed and insured. If they aren't Part107 licensed they cant be insured for commercial (for hire) work. If they’re not insured, if anything happens during the shoot, it may be a bigger headache for you than might think. Stick with professional licensed and insured drone companies. They may charge slightly more but you have peace of mind in the event anything happens on a shoot.
What questions should customers think through before talking to pros about their needs?
The location can be a factor on how soon a company can obtain FAA authorization to fly in protected airspace. For instance, if the location is next door to an airport with a control tower, it could take weeks for the company to obtain FAA approval to fly at that location. Get this process started as soon as you know. Let the company know the address ASAP so they can apply for the FAA authorization.
