Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I try and reach out immediately via email and then make plans for a time to talk about the details of their shoot. Once we've determined the style, expectations and vision of the shoot, I'll email the client with a recap of our conversation and then send them a contract. Once the contract is signed, I will send an invoice for the downpayment to reserve the shoot. Twenty-four hours before the shoot, I'll reach back out to confirm everything is still the same and also to submit the final invoice. Once the shoot is completed, I will edit and usually deliver a proofing gallery for the client to choose from.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
2 years of formal film photography training in college. And seven years of experience as a professional photographer. I've taken my ongoing educational training very seriously and am constantly learning via educational programs that I subscribe to.

How did you get started in this business?
My Grandparents lived on the bayou when I was young. My grandfather also gave me my first camera, and there used to be a blue heron that came to fish off of his dock everyday like clockwork. My Grandfather called that blue heron "Old Sam" and he was the first photo I took. I was immediatlely hooked in being able to capture something so ethereal and beautiful. And so, Old Sam's Photography was born.
What types of customers have you worked with?
Brides and Grooms, Families, Engagement, Real Estate Agents, Stagers, Builders, Models, People selling their cars, Hotels, Restaurants.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I shoot every year for an organization called "Little Pink Houses" in our area. This organization allows women with Breast Cancer and their families come down to the Gulf Coast and have a mini-vacation and get a photoshoot on the beach while they are recovering from Chemo. It's always one of my favorite events.
What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a pro in your area of expertise?
Do your research. Look at the body of work on the photogs profile and/or website. Do not be lured in by low ball offers, particularly if it is an important event like a wedding. Any photographer worth their salt charges according to their skill level and Cost of Doing Business.
What questions should customers think through before talking to pros about their needs?
What is it that their looking for in the photoshoot. Do they have a vision of what type of photos they want. Try and find examples and communicate those with the photographer.
