William Andrew Coniglio, Photography And Imaging
About
Every picture I take tells a story about its subject through what is shown, what is hinted, and what is omitted. Photography is about telling that story, truthfully when appropriate, or embellished like a tale that gets a little taller with each telling. Behind the scenes, I use all the amazing modern gear to shape the light, capture every detail, and faithfully render color to create the image.
Photography and imaging combine to make stunning pictures.
One size does not fit all.
Great photographs come from getting to know my subject before the camera ever comes out of the bag. Anything else results in insincere assumptions about how someone would like to be seen.
Technically, every photo session is different, and we have to adapt constantly. If nature doesn't provide the right light, I add my own. Of course, I shoot with the usual full frame DSLR, but sometimes a quiet point-and-shoot can capture a tender moment without disturbing it. For poster size prints or images with a certain look, I work with medium format color film, a real treat.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
Phone conversation to establish trust and determine whether I can meet the client's needs.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I started recycling and reloading disposable cameras as a child, sometimes modifying them to take pinhole pictures. My father was a photojournalist and weekend photographer as well, so I grew up with film, cameras, and darkrooms. I gained technical proficiency from years of practice, transitioning from film to digital in 2006, then returning to film again in 2020. I'm a scientist by day, so I've put plenty of thought into the optics and math that goes into producing a great image.
