Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
We usually start out by talking on phone about the cleint's needs and ideas of what they are looking for and when and where they would like to do it. From that information, I can quote them a price and book their session. Depending on the needs of the client, I may also suggest a face to face meeting, or I may want to go and see the venue of the event beforehand, to get an idea about the lighting, size of the space, etc.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have been doing photography all my life, mostly as a hobbiest. I was encouraged to become a pro by many people, and in 2010 I decided the time had come. Although I have had very little classroom training, I have sought out other highly respected photographers for help and give feedback on my work. I have studied and continue to study to learn new techniques as I upgrade my skills and equipment to provide the highest quality product to my clients.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your services? If so, please share the details here.
My basic session fee for up to 3 people in my studio starts at $99.00. I will travel to the clients location within 25 miles for at no additional charge. For large groups and for longer travel distances there will be additional charges.
For prints and other artwork, I provide my clients with a price list of options. For wall size portraits and framed wall displays, I will work with the client to find exacty what they are looking for and quote prices accordingly.
How did you get started in this business?
As a hobbiest I always loved taking pictures, mostly of family members and friends. I never took people seriously when they told me I should do this for a living. Then my neice got married and told me that although she will have a professional company doing her wedding photos, she insisted that I bring my camera. After the wedding, I sent her, my brother and several other family members the digital pictures I took. She then emailed me a link to see the pictures that were taken by the pros. I wound up printing over 300 pictures to send to the family. I had to agree that for the most part, my photos were better than the pros they hired.
A few months later, I was taking action photos at a baseball game. The team manager also insisted that I should become a professional. That's when I decided the time had come. I then studied photogrpahy and learned post-processing and lighting techniques. I purchased the necessary equipment to start my own photography business. I practiced on friends and family. I did free photography for a local theater group. I sought out feedback from other professionals from here to New York, Colorado, England and other places to improve my skills. When I finally was convinced that I was as good or better than the average competitor in my area, I started my business.
What types of customers have you worked with?
I have worked with families and sometimes their pets. We have taken pictures of numerous actors and models, several local musicians and lots of business professionals. We have done corporate headshots for lawyers and others. I am also the photographer for the West Metro Atlanta Men's Baseball League.
