About

I have had a passion for photography since I received my first 35mm camera as a child in middle school. That passion became a business in 2005, when I decided to step out on faith and invest in myself. It was the best decision I've ever made.

I have a decidedly candid style of shooting. My goal is to always capture the TRUE essence of each of my clients. That essence is lost if the client is actively trying to pose or portray him or herself in a certain way. The key is getting to know each and every client, making them comfortable with ME - which in turn makes them more comfortable with the extention of me (my camera).

Whether it be a love story through engagement/wedding photography, a documentary through event/portraiture/candid shooting, or editorial fashion/modeling sessions; I aim to personalize each session based on the client’s needs. I pride myself on my ability to capture the spirit of each event, and I look forward to capturing YOUR memories.

My work has been selected for an exhibit organized by the Dean Collection, a contemporary family art collection focused on the support of living artists. I've also had pieces selected for an exhibition celebrating the 40th anniversary of the Atlanta Jazz Festival. I've held my own photo exhibit showcasing works from my "Naturally You" project which concentrated on a woman's inherent beauty (despite perceived flaws). All images were captured with the condition that each woman went in front of the camer sans make-up. Slideshow of some of those images can be viewed here: https://www.usphotog.com/usphotog-blog/2015/1/25/the-ladies-of-the-naturally-you-project-video

Write-up on me for VoyageATL: http://voyageatl.com/interview/meet-demetrius-williams-usual-suspects-photography-llc-marietta/

Photography is extremely rewarding as it allows me to not only meet others from all walks of life, but it also allows me to show anyone who ends up in front of my camera a side of themselves that they may not have seen before. I enjoy bringing out the innate beauty in everyone and everything I photograph.

My business started as a result of a favor.

While I was still a hobbyist, a friend practically begged me to photograph her wedding (paid job). I was already in love with photography, but had never really considered it as a business venture.

After the wedding was over it clicked - what better job could I have than something that I am passionate about? That was 2005, and today I feel extremely fortunate to have been able to take the leap of faith.

I have worked with a WIDE range of clients; from large corporations and not-for-profits (BASF, Merck, Charles Schwab, UNCF) to events (UNCF Mayor's Masked Ball, ONE Musicfest, Afropunk, Atlanta Jazz Festival, Tribe/Tambor Cruise) to private clients for their personal photo sessions and headshots.

I am not one to limit myself to a certain type of client, as I believe that any and everyone deserves to be captured in their best light.

I have a love for travel, and take pride in documenting different cultures during my travels. Two of my favorite destinations have been Cuba and Nairobi, Kenya. Culturally rich and very hospitable. I am currently working on a series of exhibits to share images from my travels.

I think the best advice I could give would be to always research a photographer's work, shooting, and editing styles. You never want to be surprised when you receive finished photos, and they are not of a style that suits you.

What message do you want your photo(s) to relay to those who see them?

What story would you like your photos to tell?
