Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
It's important to me that trust is established early on. So guaranteeing my work is essential. With the preconsultation and prep for the photoshoot, my clients feel more comfortable when they begin the shoot because all of the cards are on the table. No surprises.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I'm a professional marketing manager by day. Photography is an the outlet outside of work that I use as my creative avenue to truly express myself.
Professionally I have not had formal training for photography. I have been shooting in studio for 10 years and have traveled the world listing and learning from real photographers in the field.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your services? If so, please share the details here.
Outside of headshots and portraits no. Each client has specific needs and all prices are custom to the workload and time involved to complete a project.
How did you get started in this business?
I purchased my very own camera when I was 13. It was $250 and I saved my money for an entire summer to purchase that camera. I took about 50000 photos that year. That's what sparked a real interest in how the camera worked and how to take photos in a light that was unique to my voice.
What types of customers have you worked with?
I have worked with modeling agencies, fashion brands, designers and most of the subcategories in the fashion industry.
Outside of fashion I do a lot of commercial product photography for food corporations for advertising as well as social media.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I worked with a philanthropist on the south side of chicago. He reached out to me needing photos for an upcoming campaign. We got together and created narrative photos of the struggle that people face and how he overcame those obsticals. He wanted to show the youth in his neighbor that overcoming obstacles is possible because he is doing it.
He works in academia and as research for northwestern University. This is a powerful product for me because it took my photography and gave him meaning.
What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a pro in your area of expertise?
In a world where there are cameras in everyone's palm, I encourage you to see professional photographers as artists. Each painter is different. How can your photographer capture your essance in a way that you will never forget. Photography is an experience. Your photographer should be capable of elevating you to a level beyond what someone can do with their phone.
Think carefully and chose based on skill not price.
What questions should customers think through before talking to pros about their needs?
What are the photos for?
Who will see the photos, and what are they looking for?
What photos already exist that inspire you? Find inspiration for your vision and present that to the photographer.
