What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
Ask for detailed discription of photography needed, type, use, file format, image size, budget, schedule for finish. Send customer an estimate of costs and availablility. Post production review to customer. Release of all files and copyrights upon payment.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
B.A. from UIC Chicago in photography, apprenticeship at largest studio in the country, commercial studio owner, corporate studio manager, free lance contract digital photographer. Multiple courses in Photoshop, Capture One.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your services? If so, please share the details here.
Day rate for on site commercial work is $1200 a day. Minimum of 2 hours for any project. Flexable rate for non commercial work depending on project details.
How did you get started in this business?
Graduated college in Design/photography and worked Downtown Chicago for 5 years before buying into an existing studio eventually buying out my partner. Personal photography has also been a passion including running a photo doctumentry group in Chicago.
What types of customers have you worked with?
My studio does mostly Business to Business work for the internet. I have manufacturers, corporations, small businesses and advertising agencies. I do some portrait, headshot, model composite and wedding photography.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I did a project last year with models on location at a local college campus for a clothing retailer. We had a motor home for makeup artist and changing rooms, mobil computer satations some we could edit all shots on the fly. Lots of work and lots of fun.
What advice would you give a customers looking to hire a vendor in your area of expertise?
Have a budget in mind and a style as well. Send go by ideas. The budget will dictate the level of production costs. Expect a quote with detail discription of what is included and what is extra, no surpises.
What questions should customers think through before talking to vendors about their needs?
Fast, cheap and good. You can only have 2. Scheduling should include a preproduction meeting, an estimate, product delivery if needed, photography schedule, approvals, post production and then delivery.
