About
In 2003 I started photographing anything and everything I could. In 2012 I became a photographer full time and swore I'd never have a desk job again. Technically I do sit at my desk to edit photos, but I can jump up to make my child a snack, walk our four legged children or pull some weeds, so it still counts. And I'm thankful for it all, every day.
I'm Alex Lassiter. Photographer, mother, wife, Pinterest junkie, artist, urban farmer, traveler and lover of life. My hubby is a full-time musician/teacher and our 2 1/2 year old keeps us both on our toes with daily explorations in the garden, the kids museum and trips to local farms.
I grew up in Durham, NC and left to explore the world for a while. I came back to this area with the hopes of finding a nice southern man to share my life with. In 2014 my very own north cackalacky gentleman made me the happiest lady in the world. He said he'd like to settle down, have a munchkin and plant a huge garden...and the rest is history in the making.
We spend our days feeling thankful for the opportunities we have to make art and spend time with our beautiful child. We get to do what we love for a living and we don't ever take it for granted.
Photography isn't a career for me - I'm a photographer - it's in my blood and I wouldn't ever want to live without it. That moment when you see your client really smile for the first time - when everything melts away and you capture a tiny piece of who they really are - I'll never get tired of that.
We only get one turn around this rock and I intend to enjoy this one to the fullest! If I can make some magic happen with a digital camera, a little light and lot of love for my craft and the people I photograph, then I think that's a life worth living.
Thanks for stopping by!

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I start with an email or phone call and might meet for coffee depending on the project.
I meet all of my wedding clients for a cup of coffee or a glass of wine, my treat.
If my client is out of town, we FaceTime or use Skype.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have been a photographer for 13 years. I am self taught and worked with several photographers in NYC to learn more about my craft. New projects and challenges excite me. My clients often delight me with the fun and creative ideas they come up with.

How did you get started in this business?
I was given a camera at a young age and it became my best friend. It's my passion and I couldn't imagine doing anything else.
What types of customers have you worked with?
I have photographed everything from products to three day weddings. My cleints are often local business owners, chefs and entrepreneurs. Most weekends I am photographing at least one wedding. A few times a year I work with charitable organizations to photograph their events. It's a great way to give back to my community and it brings me a lot of joy.
What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a pro in your area of expertise?
Ask questions. If it sounds too good to be true, then it probably is. You should trust and like your photographer. If you're booking a wedding, see a whole wedding. Don't just be taken in by some photos that might have been a styled shoot. Make sure you get everything in writing. You should know what you are going to receive and when the images will be delivered.
What questions should customers think through before talking to pros about their needs?
They should think through what they want. I often ask my clients to show me inspiration boards on Pinterest. It's good for photographers to see what style and feel their client is going for. Be honest and your photographer should be able to give you reaslistic advice and see if they can produce what you're looking for.
