Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
It always starts with an email or phone call, then a face to face meeting is always best to get an idea of who you are working with, what you are looking for in a photographer, and if that photographer is a good fit for you.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have over thirty years of full time photography experience. I have learned so much over those years and always want to learn more, to better myself professionaly and keep myself current.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your services? If so, please share the details here.
Yes and it is explained on my website peterrbarber.com. However, with the digital age, much of what I do had lost a lot of respect because now, everyone is a photographer. With camera phones, filters, effects, and more affordable DSLR's putting a camera on automatic and letting it fly makes anyone pretty good. When hiring a professional such as myself, I know camera settings, composition, and the effects of the settings verbatim. You hire a professional because you want quality, however, many times people ask if I can lower my quote, or is that the best you can do. Hiring a professional photographer is no different than hiring an electrician, an auto repair person, or contractor. It is a highly skilled person in their field of choice and should be respected as such.
How did you get started in this business?
I began taking pictures growing up in Buffalo . NY for local newspapers and the Associated Press wire service. I have been working as a full time staff photographer at the Daily Gazette for the past 16 years, and the Watertown Daily Times 15 years before that.
What types of customers have you worked with?
I have worked with a vast array of clients, from professionals and corporations to familes for portraits and real estate brokers for photos of interiors and extreriors of homes.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I was contacted by Schenectady Police Chief Eric Clifford to take individual portraits of over 150 employees for a commemorative wall display.
