James DeCamp Photography
About
James D. DeCamp, an award winning commercial photographer with more than 30 years experience, available for your assignments in Columbus, Ohio, the Midwest region, and world wide.
In addition to my years as an independent photographer, I have worked for more than two decades as a staff photographer for The Columbus Dispatch, The Lancaster Eagle-Gazette, and ThisWeek Newspapers and I was a photographer for the Zondervan “Sunday in America” book project. As Media/Public Relations Director for the Columbus March for Jesus, I produced a 175% increase in attendance from the previous year.
I have photographed some of the most famous and infamous people in the world, including every US president since Jimmy Carter, but what I really enjoy is documenting ordinary life, from the joys of two people coming together at a wedding, to breaking news. As any good journalist knows, these stories are all around us. I look forward to working with you to tell your stories.

Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I am the Komen Columbus Race for the Cure photographer and do work for the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption. Both of these great organizations are near and dear to my heart and I am blessed to be able to provide them with my photography services.
What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a pro in your area of expertise?
Stay away from Craigs List and cheap photographers.
Yes, everyone has to start someplace, but let them cut their teeth on someone elses event or wedding. You are only doing your wedding or event once. Make sure the person you hire to cover that event has the experience and the professionalism to cover it adequately.
What questions should customers think through before talking to pros about their needs?
General timeline of their event so they can plan coverage hours.
What are the final uses of the photography they are requesting.
