What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I prefer to discuss what exactly it is that the customer wants, how many will be in the photos, whether they prefer a studio or an outdoor setting, and if outdoor, where.
Once I have an understanding of what they wish, together we can take that from a dream to a photo--and a memory.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Five years of experience with cameras and photography.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your services? If so, please share the details here.
For weddings, I charge $200 per hour, three hours minimum, eight hours maximum. The first preliminary meeting to see the venue and to discuss the specifics of the wedding are free; any additional in-person meetings are billable by hourly plus mileage. First 25 miles are free.
Typically I deliver the final product on a memory card. If photographs and, optionally, albums are desired, these have a variable charge that will be discussed at the preliminary meeting.
For all other shoots (pets, real estate, family portraits), my going rate is $100 per hour, minimum one hour, first 25 miles free. Additional drive time is billed at $25/hour, round trip. For these fees, the customer may expect to receive a USB flash drive with photographs is JPG format.
How did you get started in this business?
I purchased my first "real" camera five years ago and took a a casual interest in photography, with a leaning toward storms, landscapes, sunsets, and the moon. Over time, people complimented my work and asked if I would be available to photograph their families, horses, dogs, even a wedding. After initially waving them off, I finally decided to try my hand at a wedding. The photos are listed on the web page provided. I enjoyed it, did pretty well, and would like to do this again... and again!
