A Cut Above

About

Shortly after we were released back to work from COVID, I realized that a lot of my clients still weren't comfortable coming into a salon with people coming and going all day, plus another 6 people in there at the same time.....So I chose to become a Personal Service Stylist. This means that I come to YOUR HOME, eliminating the risk of exposure. During the nice weather, a majority of my clients had me out on a porch or deck....now I'm in a lot of garages. 😁 Occasionally, for a first time color client, I will have them come to MY home so that I have my full Arsenal of colors on hand. The ONLY thing I do not have is a shampoo bowl. Most wash their hair before I get there, or for colors, will wash it out in their kitchen sink. If this sounds like something you'd be interested in, just send me a text!

I have been a hairstylist for 35 years. I have seen and done just about every hairstyle out there. My main priority is the look and health of your hair....if you bring me a picture that is not doable, I will TELL YOU. If your hair is not in stable enough condition to do the chemical service you are asking for, I will pass on the money and TELL YOU!

Too many stylists just want the money from the service and don't let the client know about the hazards of the service!! YOU are my walking billboard. If I do a service that looks terrible or makes your hair break off, (just because that's what you wanted), it makes ME look bad!! Truth in service is my motto!!

I love EVERYTHING about the work I do!! Making people look and FEEL better about themselves is so rewarding! Having the opportunity to meet so many different people with different personalities, backgrounds, heritages, and stories make my "job", not a job at all....but rather a daily EXPERIENCE! God has truly blessed me with this career. πŸ’–

Ginni was great! She was great at communicating and knows how to cut curly hair (which not everyone does). I recommended her to my daughter who also had a positive experience. We will definitely go back to her.

Ginni has been my hair stylist for over 20 years, because she is excellent in her skills. She has done perms, color and cuts that always bring me compliments. She responds well to scheduling changes. I highly recommend her.

My husband has been going to A Cut Above for 22 or 23 years, he is super picky! My daughter and I were a bit slower, about 18 years. Love Ginni! She is fantastic!

    Frequently asked questions

I like to discuss their lifestyle. Do they have time to do their hair every morning? Do they prefer "wash-n-go" type of style? What are they looking for long term in a style ......as in, are they hoping to grow it out eventually, etc.

What products are they using in their hair. What is their history with color and other chemicals. Discussing their face shape with the most flattering cut. Discussing their skin tone with a complimentary color.

Too many classes and workshops over the years to even count. Color and cut specialist.

Cuts are pretty standard. Extra charges would be for styling (such as curling or straightening) that takes more than 10 minutes after dry. Most times, soft waves or getting the hair straighter can be achieved during the blowdry/style. It might also cost a little extra if it's a very detailed, intricate cut, or if someone were to have an overly abundant amount of hair. My pricing is more "time" based, rather than short vs long, men vs women, children vs adults. Cuts up to 45 min are $45 --After 45 min, it's $2 per 5 min. (If someone just needs a quick cleanup that takes 20 min or less, I'll charge $35)

Beyond blowdry styling (i.e. curling or straightening full head) +$10

Colors and highlights have SO many variables, so I will just list the STARTING prices of those. All prices include cut and blowstyle.

    Full color........$105

    Root touch-up color......$85

    Full foil.......$150

    Partial foil.......$120

    Full foil touch-up......$120

    Partial touch-up......$95

Corrective color......$75 an hour for first two hours, $50 an hour beyond that.

Variables can include: thickness of hair, length of hair, how many colors are used, if a toner is needed, prior color remaining in hair, etc.

In elementary school, my older sister used to cut my dad and my brothers hair. I would be intrigued watching her.....I started cutting my own hair in Jr. High and always got compliments. By High School I was cutting a few friends' hair. I enrolled in the Skill Center program for Cosmetology my senior year, and the rest is history!

I'm mostly trained in Caucasian hair, but do have a few ethnic clients as well. I have worked on children as young as 9 months, to people in their 90's. I have almost as many men clients as I do women. Age, gender, or race have no bearing......although, like I said above, my training on ethnic hair, especially chemical straightening is limited. πŸ˜•
