Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
To begin working with a new client or couple, we can meet on a Zoom call or speak on the phone during the COVID pandemic. After this is over, we can meet in person at a location we mutually choose.
This first meeting is free and lasts about an hour and 1/2. We get to know each other and you can share all your ideas for your wedding or event.
If we decide to work together, we sign a contract, you make a 33% nonrefundable payment to secure your date and we begin creating your wedding or event.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a bachelor's degree in Psychology and have done the Association of Bridal Consultant's wedding consultant training course. I do many hours every year of continued education. Before starting my business, I had worked with two gourmet caterers as a server and a linen company. In addition I have assisted a local florist with set up and delivery of florals for several weddings.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your services? If so, please share the details here.
You can find my starting prices on my website services page.
How did you get started in this business?
I previously worked in the natural foods industry as a retail store owner, a nutrition department buyer and then for a NW natural foods brokerage. In these jobs I learned how to manage many, many details at a time, I booked meeting rooms for vendor and employee trainings and organized trade show booths and staff schedules when attending national trade shows.
When my chidren were too old for daycare but too young to stay home alone, I started laying the groundwork and training to work for myself, to be able to be there for my family and plan celebratory events for my clients in my own business. I never looked back.
What types of customers have you worked with?
I have planned weddings for modest budgets and up to $60,000 plus weddings. Many of my past clients live here locally in Washington state but I have also worked with numerous long distance clients from all over the country who plan to get married here in WA state.
My couples have married on mountaintops, in backyards, in churchs, Seattle hotels and outdoor rustic venues. Some of my couples have had their dog be part of their ceremony. Most of my couples are looking for some type of personalization of thier wedding day - they want their wedding to reflect who they are as individuals and as a couple.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
A favorite for me was a couple from out of state. They got married at a mountain resort her in WA. Together we added so many personal touches to thier wedding day. They had a painter who painted thier mountaintop ceremony scene - guests loved this and the couple had a permanent painted memory of their ceremony. Their reception had touches of gold throughout: goldleaf on their wedding cake, mini gold leaves on their guest tables and round gold place card holders that the father of the bride later used to make a handmade wall clock for them. Their menu cards, place cards and thier invitations all had a custom mountain design complete with the gondola their guests would ride to attend their ceremony on the summit. They were a joy to work with and we created a wonderful experience for their guests and families.
What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a pro in your area of expertise?
My best advice is to consider more than just the cost of hiring a wedding planner. Hire someone who has experience planning weddings, who listens to your ideas, who you will enjoy working with and who has the skills to assemble and organize your whole team of vendors to make your day flow beautifully.
What questions should customers think through before talking to pros about their needs?
Does the vendor match your style and personality?
Are their services close to or within your budget?
Does the vendor have a business license and liability insurance?
Do they have a backup plan if they cannot be there on your day?
How quickly will they respond to your questions/texts/emails?
What is most important to you about your wedding day? Your highest priorities?
