Hi there! I am a daughter, a Mom, a sister, a world traveler, a professional photographer, a potter, a certified yoga instructor and a wanna-be surfer, among a few other things.
I love any kind of beach (bonus points for the Caribbean or even more exotic!) and I hate the cold. I grew up in Iowa, moved to New York City as SOON as I could, and now I live in the Northern Virginia area (Reston, to be exact, but I will travel anywhere).
My favorite day would involve my son Kai (of course), a camera, close friends and provocative conversation.
As a photographer, I love to work with whatever natural light is available, and what makes me SO happy is to see the looks on my clients’ faces when they see the pictures from our session for the first time.
I have an individual style that combines fine art and journalism, always striving to capture my subjects in a relaxed and natural environment.
I love love love working with people! And I love to laugh! Weddings are such a huge and happy celebration and I always feel humbled to be able to experience it with a couple.
I started with old school 35mm black and white developing and a BA in Art from Luther College in Decorah, Iowa. I then moved over to fully digital with a professional photography certificate from the Center for Digital Imaging Arts at Boston University. My three decades of photography experience include Babies and Children’s Portraits, Family Portraits, Actor’s & Author’s Headshots and Events.
I have been pursuing a passion of imagery and art for over three decades, traveling the globe in pursuit of my love to meet people and explore new places and experiences. My travels have taken me to more than 20 countries, including an assignment to capture relief efforts following the 2010 earthquake in Haiti. An experience that forever changed me.
I have a constant curiosity and strive to capture emotional and thought-provoking images that are a stolen moment in time and will provide happy memories forever.
Astri took photos for a Celebration of Life for our brother. Her photos captured the somber, poignant moments, laughter, and the essence of the celebration. Astri has a great eye for composition and her photos reflect her artistry as a photographer.
Astri has a unique talent in making you feel comfortable and relaxed in front of the camera. With her kind direction and fun personality, she even made my photo-phobic husband look amazing!
She gave me the best headshot ever!! Astri is amazing! She has a nice energy about her and makes the photo shoot fun. I did professional photos and family photos on the same day and we loved how they came out!! Astri captured us all with her camera that morning. I'd definitely recommend her.
I like to meet my bride and groom well before the wedding date, even if they don't want an engagement shoot. It's important that we are all comfortable around each other! After the wedding, I take a couple weeks to edit like crazy. I then send the bride and groom an image gallery and they get to request additional edits. When they are finally happy with the final pics, they can forward the image gallery to all their friends and family to order their own prints. Of course I offer gorgeous wedding albums, and will deliver the digitals to the happy couple.
