About
Hi there! I am a daughter, a Mom, a sister, a world traveler, a professional photographer, a potter, a certified yoga instructor and a wanna-be surfer, among a few other things.
I love any kind of beach (bonus points for the Caribbean or even more exotic!) and I hate the cold. I grew up in Iowa, moved to New York City as SOON as I could, and now I live in the Northern Virginia area (Reston, to be exact, but I will travel anywhere).
My favorite day would involve my son Kai (of course), a camera, close friends and provocative conversation.
As a photographer, I love to work with whatever natural light is available, and what makes me SO happy is to see the looks on my clients’ faces when they see the pictures from our session for the first time.
I have an individual style that combines fine art and journalism, always striving to capture my subjects in a relaxed and natural environment.
I love love love working with people! And I love to laugh! Weddings are such a huge and happy celebration and I always feel humbled to be able to experience it with a couple.
I started with old school 35mm black and white developing and a BA in Art from Luther College in Decorah, Iowa. I then moved over to fully digital with a professional photography certificate from the Center for Digital Imaging Arts at Boston University. My three decades of photography experience include Babies and Children’s Portraits, Family Portraits, Actor’s & Author’s Headshots and Events.
I have been pursuing a passion of imagery and art for over three decades, traveling the globe in pursuit of my love to meet people and explore new places and experiences. My travels have taken me to more than 20 countries, including an assignment to capture relief efforts following the 2010 earthquake in Haiti. An experience that forever changed me.
I have a constant curiosity and strive to capture emotional and thought-provoking images that are a stolen moment in time and will provide happy memories forever.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I like to meet my bride and groom well before the wedding date, even if they don't want an engagement shoot. It's important that we are all comfortable around each other! After the wedding, I take a couple weeks to edit like crazy. I then send the bride and groom an image gallery and they get to request additional edits. When they are finally happy with the final pics, they can forward the image gallery to all their friends and family to order their own prints. Of course I offer gorgeous wedding albums, and will deliver the digitals to the happy couple.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Started shooting and working in a dark room in high school;
Graduated with a bacelor of arts with a focus in photography (Luther College, Decorah Iowa);
Went back to school a couple decades later to learn digital photography (Center for Digital Imaging Arts/BU)
Thirty years of shooting experience!
